*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Great to see planetary landing is on the way, but....

I really don't like how the frame shift drive is implemented and would be concerned about any sort of orbital frame shift ideas

Seamlessly flying from a planet surface to an orbital station without the immersion killing fsd is a must imo. Difficult when ships can only travel 300m/s in normal flight

In Eve Online dropping in and out of warp is much less jarring transition, they need to figure something out,

Previous Elite games made extensive use of time speeding up mechanic to travel vast distances. Unfortunately as this isnt a singleplayer game and its online they cant use that.

Dont have any problems with FSD tbh. You still have interactions when in FSD.

Not being funny but given all of the stations are more or less the same I'm not expecting great things when it comes to weather on a planet lol

This is set to change with the CQC combat.

DB said some of the stations in CQC will appear in the main game.

The stations will eventually be procedurally generated, outposts are now any way, its just the orbital slot ones are not at the moment.

I see Elite dangerous as a ride, you can hop on now and see the foundations.
Or just dip your toe in now and again until you feel comfortable the water is warm and deep enough. ;)

When you're in supercruise it's fine, the problem is dropping in and out of it is a major immersion killer.

Haven't played in few months but assuming it's still the same, in supercruise get to within x distance of an icon, slow down, press a button to drop out and new instance is joined with the station/asteroid belt now 10km away? It's just bad:mad:

That's the stupid instance thing using peer to peer!

Hopefully they will sort it with time.

But to be honest its a lot better now than it was on release. ;)

Typically in supercruise you have your destination targeted, when you get close why don't they pre-load the instance for the targeted destination, surely they could to come up with a smoother transition doing that

Other real players in the instance and determining your relative position would still need to be handled on exit ... but everything else should be loaded ready to go. Obviously wouldn't work for interdictions and other unplanned exits but they are not frequent.

Eve can do it well loading into an instance containing hundreds even thousands of real players...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1BpgXiqNb0

Leaving a grid or instance in Eve is also way more refined, you accelerate away rapidly before warp - the local geometry doesn't just instantly disappear

Eve has had significantly more time to iron it out though.

Nvidia is just fine for me and everybody else i know running one, overhearing maybe?

never had one crash on this game on both AMD or NVIDIA

never been ganked or attacked by another player. Yeah i play in open.

Only have 3.5 mill now thinking i should go down the trading route. Ive been mainly been profiting by res sites approx 1 mill every 1.5 hour/2 hour sometimes. Dont really notice time so much as its quite fun. But im sure it would be more efficient doing rare runs in a t6 t7

oh wait how much is a vulture? :D

You might make similar money kitting out a Cobra and trading rares, maybe the T6, the T7 you will struggle to fill with rares though so will likely be a waste. You are also likely to get interdicted if you start rare running in open though especially around the Lave cluster. Personally I'd stick with the viper until you have enough for a Vulture with semi decent fittings which will just make killing stuff in Res's quicker :)

Ohhh a vulture is only 5 mill ish :D Ill save a bit more then so i can afford to decent spec it.

Then when ive A specced it...only then i may turn to the dark side.

edit: hrmm might try the Diamondback and Imperial Courier as well.

Got bored of scanning Wolf-Rayets and black holes in the core so decided to go a little trip to the very top of the galaxy. Found an undiscovered Earth-like over 2,700 ly above the galactic plane; any inhabitants on it would have an amazing view because from that altitude you can see the full disc of the Milky Way in all its glory! :)

Nice! Did you get any good screenshots?
Only of the system map for book-keeping.

I don't bother taking screenies with every ELP I discover any more because after a while they all start to look the same; I probably should have with this one though I guess since I'm unlikely to find another that high! Oh well, I jotted down the name of the system so perhaps I'll visit it again in the future after we can land on planets with an atmosphere.

Help guys, I've just got the game, and the first tutorial where you have to destroy the cannisters is impossible.

I have only managed to destroy one, and that seems to have been lucky as every other time I'm trying to destroy them, the bullets don't seem to hit it, no matter how close I am to the target (the bullets definitely look like they're hitting dead centre, but there's no sparks and it doesn't get destroyed).

Is the game malfunctioning, or is there some obvious thing I am missing?

Thanks for the help, looking forward to playing the game

They stung me out of £40 once, they're not getting another penny from me for an expansion. Seeing how they're not a huge team (and have already laid people off), i find it difficult to believe they're working to improve the main game with resources diverted towards planets.
