I loaded Horizons up again yesterday....

Why oh why cant I get back into this game?

As I left a station to and framshift to another planet, I found myself nodding off to sleep....

I really want to get back into this.. I really do.... sigh :\

I know how you feel, fired it up, installed VA attack again flew out of the station jumped a few times shot a few wanted at a nav station and then lost interest. Maybe because my Corvette is awesome :)

I have just given this a quick go again but in VR (as managed to grab a used one). The scaling looks good. Might give me another 100 hours worth of gameplay (I hope).

Well, having added a 2Tb ssd to my gaming rig and now having space for plenty of games without having to do the uninstall shuffle, I'm once again playing ED. Three nights running and I'm still enjoying it. Quite surprising, I only lasted one session last time I returned. Have reset my account so working my way back out of the gutter.
Wonder if I'll make it to a week...

Anyone here using a Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS One? Was after a cheap stick and throttle and I have just realised that I can spend some Nectar points to get this free.

I used one for 100s hours of play and it was pretty robust. Eventually I replaced it with a 16000M which seemed like an upgrade but in reality probably wasn't (throttle not smooth and the twist grip tends to fail).

I have the 16000M and looking to upgrade it to a virpo alpha ones :)

very nice! I replaced my 16000M stick with a VKB SIM Gladiator K which is excellent, so many buttons, solid build quality and comprehensive config software. Still using the 16000M throttle for now until it dies on me or I find something better.

I have been using the HOTAS X which I got for less than 20 quid used. Its served me well so far.

Can anyone help me out here. If I'm looking for a game I can drop in and out off fairly easily, and not need to be online and present for hours, is this still an option? I've got myself excited with VR in Star wars squadrons, and even though I've barely started on that, I'm looking around at other options. I'm just now trying to get flight sticks etc

Funnily enough I've just bought one of these on Ebay, assuming it arrives etc. Managed to get it for a bit under £30, which seems to be a very good price in the current market. I've also nabbed a v1 t16000M (again, assuming it gets posted etc, and the sale isn't cancelled), for a very good price (hence the fear it'll be cancelled for some reason). I'm wondering which would be preferable, or if it would even be possible to dual stick these (16000m would have to go on the left).

yes you can still play in Solo or a private group with friends. For most content you can just leave the game and return to it later, although some missions may have timed out.

Is solo fun? Is the universe well populated without other players?

On the stick front, I've just realised another option would be use the 16000m and the hotas one throttle (again, assuming it's possible)?

+1. Most missions have a deadline of 24 hours or so unless its a passenger mission that requires extensive travel. If you dont pick any before logging off you dont need to worry about timing out on those. But if not completed, they do incur penalties or drop in your rep in that particular system.

OK, so need to be careful with the missions I take if I'm not sure how long I'll have to play.

Depends what you like to do, if you want to PvP and do community goals etc then you want to be on open, but for exploration, PvE, trading, engineering etc you are going to be fine doing that in solo/group and will be unmolested. You can always play open and drop whenever you like, but that may be inconvenient if you like playing in a wing etc.

If your combat skills are good, then open play should not be a problem. I have been either playing solo or group and only venturing out a few times into open. I enjoy doing the passenger/trade runs and could not be bothered with combat (even with the NCP's in game).

In addition, there are also community goals that you can be part of. They tend to run for a few days/week depending on the size of the task. Usually is tied into some of the game lore (i.e a generation ship being discovered etc).

OK, so I can freely switch. I've not played a flight/space sim since I was 16 basically. I'll be getting my first flight stick since then too (I'm 37 now). So I suspect I'm not going to be too hot in combat :D.

I'll go through star wars squadrons first I suspect, but then move onto the "big boy" game :D.

Yes you can switch between server modes whenever, you have exactly the same setup just without other players. Doing so also resets instances etc which helps if you are farming materials etc.
