If i'm in Super Cruse and lock on to a ship to scan it is there a quick easy way (Key press) that i can do to return to locking my destination? IE not having to go back into the map to reselect my destination.
IIRC, the F-14 military fighter jet could track and launch missile attacks on up to 24 separate targets at a time. Not as far as I know, because in the 34th century, despite having colonised the galaxy with spaceships capable of superluminal speeds, computers can only track a single target. And it really ******* bugs me.

You dont need to go back to the map, you can go to the navigation focus panel and reselect your destination, or select target in front, if you can still see it.

Map a shortcut key to "Target next system in route" under Targeting in control settings. Then, once you have targeted a station/planet in the galaxy/system map and you want to scan a ship on the way there in supercruise, tap your "target ahead" key, or your "cycle next target key", get the ship in your scan window, wait till it scans, then press your "target next system in route" key. It should then deselect the ship and retarget the station/planet automatically. You should not have to go back to the sys map or the side panel. At least this is how it works with me.
I always scan ships using this on the way to a station for the data. I almost always use the cycle target button rather than target ahead, as it, erm, cycles the targets so if there are multiple ships in front of your can get them all, and just keep cycling until they all show as scanned.
edit: just had a play to check, maybe it only works this way with the cycle target key as described. Using the target ahead key seemed not to work, but as I say if you know you are only doing this for scanning then cycling targets is all you need.
Makes sense, what is the Cycle target Key? Or do i have to map one? i'm still a bit noob...
It also under Targeting in the controller setup. There is one for cycle next and cycle previous. Press it and it will literally target the ships around you one after another. I rapidly tap this to see if there aren't any ships I haven't scanned while in supercruise. If I find one but go past it in the list, then I use the cycle previous key. There is a knack to it, but one you get the hang it is very quick to periodically check if there are any new ships to scan. And as long as you don't use any other targettng method than cycle, then it should keep your main station or planet target to go back to.
yes unfortunatley it is still 32.Does Elite still have that limit of 32 buttons that can be mapped?

Good choice, loving mine.I have a pair of VKB Gladiator NXT coming via air soon, ordered yesterday and despatched yesterday, arrived in UK this morning and I've paid the import fees just waiting for estimated day to update as it was Friday but now not sure due to needing to pay the fees.
Hope its not too long

How much did it cost you? Are those a type of stick where you have to buy the base separately?
Hoping to have just nabbed another bargain t16000m off facebook, assuming I've not been scammed and/or it's not working. Sold untested (says pc recognised device when plugged in). Though only £5 upfront, and £10 on delivery if it works, and just another £5 if it doesn't. So either I've just lost £5 to a scammer (seems a bit weak to scam for that much), or I've got myself a bargain.
One day perhaps, if I take it all seriously enough, I'll graduate to VKB sticks Probably when they're worth as much as the t16000s are now!
Oh, and since I seem to be moving forwards. Tips for a newbie??
This is what I've just ordered 1 left and 1 right handed stick from VKB Europe, these come as 1 unit so no extra base to buy, its their entry level to mid tier sticks, but supposedly far better than the x52/t1600 type of sticks for precision and build quality.
Im moving from t1600 dual sticks to these VKB`s cant wait, they cost me £252.22 GBP for the air lift which means they get here much quicker, you then have to pay import fees which were £60 as well so all in 2 sticks were £315.
It's easy enough - I have 32 buttons mapped direct, plus another three mapped to CTRL, ALT and SHIFT, resulting in 192 mappable controls...lol.
They can hoist engineers on us, but can’t spare the developers to finally resolve the 32 button limit. Pah!
