@Bubo my ship is no where near ready for xeno attacking yet, I don't have access to guardian tech yet
I'm sort of building a cold, fast python to run rescue missions. But seem to have wandered off in another direction at the moment.

I might just take it into one of the war systems as it stands and see if I survive long enough to get to a burning station... Rescues from settlements (in Odyssey, sorry) are supposed to be good too - sitting exposed on the ground loading passengers while there's a battle going on above you.

so i went to a rescue megaship, and i can buy flak cannons etc (never seen these before)
so im guessing these weapons are available to anyone from the start of the game ? (unlike guardian weapons ?)

ive got "incompatible slot" at the moment..

going to buy a new ship for AX weapons...
any tips?

Thanks

Turreted AX MC's are good for fighting Scouts (the low-level Thargoid ships that you get lots of at the start of AX combat zones), but the remote flak is only really used on the "swarm" when fighting interceptors. I'd be inclined to start your AX experience fighting scouts, and running away from interceptors unless you have backup, so the beam laser in the build you linked probably makes more sense for your 5th weapon slot.

Brill
Cheers mate

Is there much content in this game now? And do you need to buy a load of DLC?

Been several years since I played this, unless things have changed just found it a really nice sleek space sim game with not much to do.

Somehow still managed to put about 400 hours in.

@BUDFORCE Also, and this is the thing which stopped most folk I know playing the game, the system requirements to run it ramped up massively when they dropped the Odyssey expansion in 2021. So, whereas before it ran on pretty much any PC/GPU from the past 5 years, it now needs pretty much an Nvidia 3060 or better to run at a playable frame rate. Especially if you want to try out any of the on foot content.

Yeah, this is the reason I have fallen back to Horizons. The GPU overhead was just not worth it for Odyssey.
I think I am done with it now though. Which is a shame.

You guys seen the latest FDEV **** up? This Thargoid war thing they got going on where they are expecting the player base to valiantly come together to fight off Thargoid incursions into systems to prevent them falling altogether. On the face of it it *looked* like a quite interesting push-pull mechanic where systems would gradually change hands based on where players put their effort over time, notionally over 5-7 week chunks of time for a system to fully be lost. You know, like how a real war might go?

But no, if you don't get the required 100% progress within a single week, then all progress is reset to zero and you have to start all over again the next week. Can you imagine a more monumentally stupid mechanic than that?

It is clear to me they have a planned schedule for the narrative to play out, i.e. make it hard in the first place for a couple of months, make it look like all hope is lost. Then have some initial CG's around upgrading weapons for a couple of weeks, so we feel there is hope. Probably going to be several of these dragged out over months, after which humanity will look like it is pushing back. Then there will probably be another major Tharg push and systems will fall again. Then right at the end there will be some Deus Ex Machina event with some in game NPC discovering some Guardian based technology that will ultimately turn the tides. And during this time they will implement ground Tharg combat you will have to farm to support the new weapon or whatever it will be.

All this will play out according to their timeline for the whole war, which this reset thing plainly reveals, they don't want there to be any chance of players actually having an affect on where their timeline goes. I don;t know why this has irked me so much as I have no real interest in engaging in the THargoid stuff, or really playing the game that much these days, but this kind of stuff that FDEV do to waste peoples time really gets me.

Thinking about my AX build
wouldn't a AX multicannon be better than the 1x Beam Laser ?
You can only equip a maximum of 4 AX weapons at the moment, so the thermal vent beam is just there to help manage heat. I've seen a fair bit of chuntering on the forums that maybe this limit could be lifted, possibly by a CG, but I think the main reason for the limit is to keep medium size ships relevant and stop the T10 becoming the AX powerhouse it was always meant to be :D

High Grade Emissions are not very common are they :(

I'm in civil unrest trying to get Imporovised components
taking all day....
Grade 4 Reinforced shields will be fine :D
Seriously, engineer with the mats you have, then go and play! People obsess over G5 engineering, but you don't have to absolutely min-max everything to have a combat-worthy ship. Sure, G5 would be better, but it's not a minimum entry requirement.

This, just make a point of scooping mats at every opportunity and using the traders to swap them into the ones you want.
