Be aware you will have to start from scratch with a different named character. Unless you can somehow convince Frontier to move your character, if it even possible for them to do themselves.

i dont think that is the case so long as your epic email is the same as steam. both link to the same account (i actually wish mine hadnt. i would have liked a free 2nd account when i got the epic freebie)
Scanning a particular type of biological entity out in the sticks is apparently one of the fastest ways to make billions even for a new player, which is only available to Odyssey. Never done it myself but there are guides and that. But really the bulk of your time catching up will be doing the engineer locks again, unless you are talking about amassing the same amount of cash as you currently have on your Epic account on top of that.
Though, actually, once you get a second Steam account, I think there are ways to effectively unofficially transfer credits in game by transferring high value cargo from one ship to another. Would require both accounts running at the same time, on two PC's I guess. One ship jettisons(abandons) cargo and the other picks it up. I've also heard of doing similar but all on a fleet carrier. Depends how much you want to transfer on how much of a chore this would be.
I also have a second account on Epic, which was from when they did the free one. I got it because a)there was nothing to lose, and b)with the intention to go off exploring on one account and leave the main account in the bubble. As it happens I haven't actually bothered developing the Epic account at all really, but the option is there. If you get a Steam account you can keep the Epic account going along similar lines.
Aha, yeah, I wish I had known that in that case. Though, yes if you want two separate accounts that was the way, albeit with having to start from scratch again.

cash wont be your blocker anymore it will be engineering... but even that after the last update is far far faster now and you can trade your materials you do not need for ones you do at specialist material traders in some stations (at significant markdown but not an issue if your bags are overflowing)
xenobiology scanning is the simple way to make mega bucks in elite now, and its also Oddy only so will get you to experience some of the new content.

So another words change my steam email address to a different one and make sure I sign up to a new account via frontier ?

do you want a new account or do you want the same account on both store fronts? if you want a new account then dont link them and make sure your epic email is different to your steam.
if you want to sync them then make sure both are on the same email and then if given an option DO link them (sorry i cant remember specifics, all my PC game stores are on the same email so it was seamless for for me and i think automatically all went to the same account) If i had been given the option i would have set up a new commander... i wasnt so i assume if you use the same emails the default is to log into the same account.....

you could play with a kid if you have one multiplayer in your house
there are a few exploits you can do with 2 players in a wing to get to destinations quicker
you get an extra pip for shields / engines or weapons if set for multicrew.
The above 2 things didnt interest me however i just wanted the possibility to see a bum on a seat next to me in my ship (one of the major failings which is surely an easy fix is the fact our ships are empty and lifeless imo..... - probably wont notice much unless you play in VR)
it boggles me FD never implemented ships crew. They were meant to, it was in the design plan as a soon after release addition.

i think for most people Elite D is such a time sink that 1 account is plenty.
