*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I started playing this again a couple of weeks ago and enjoying it, varjo aero vr is amazing, I bought odyssey as well, but I am getting killed all the time. I think I may have missed something during the tutorial, maybe about shield and health. Great to see my shop from the outside and dock though.
the starting gear is crap. think of it as an e rated sidewinder. you need to spec up your gear.

the good news is if you get lucky you can find up to level 3 engineered stuff with some bonus effects to buy which is a hell of a head start.

Sorry I meant that the first person Odyssey I keep getting killed, I'm sure I'm missing something so will need to watch some videos

that was what i meant... i was on my phone and rushing so sorry if not clear.
The starting guns and armour in Ody is really poor, my comparison to an E rated sidewinder was not literal..... but for instance a starting sidewinder with a new player going into a combat zone wont have a good time of it.

the same is true of the starting on foot gear. the difference tho is if you get lucky you can find and buy half upgraded stuff for cash if you find it in the store (cant remember the name of the gun and gear shop in elite but its on the concourse in stations/orbital platforms/ground bases)

Ah got it thanks, more reading and videos :) it's like another job sometimes. But one that I can just ignore. I am enjoying this again but so many changes since I last played. Just doing missions and got my sol permit. So need to decide what direction I want to go with now I think.

i don't know if the starting ship in odyssey is different from horizons
but you just need to stay out of trouble until you can afford a better ship

trade missions is the best best at the start

use this website to know what to trade in and where to take it to

you will need to jump to other systems though, use your ships speed and manoeuvrability to get away from threats

@sgavan (sorry forgot to quote) i am the same tbh. i grew with elite dangerous from way before release when all there was was a sidewinder and a few ships to shoot, so never had a problem with any of the new features..... until Ody. it was such a mess at launch i didnt enjoy it so i just stuck with the standard horizons content and i even tho its improved now i rarely do any of the new content other than exobiology.

also, whilst i do have a ship capable of destroying the lower tier thargoid ships (i get owned by hydras however), i have absolutely no idea where to start with the new thargoid titans.

which is a shame as you can earn a lot of cash and materials and also get some unique ship kits for being involved. the worst part is, apparently its some of the most engrossing stuff in the game, esp in VR, but there is a chance once the last of the titans are destroyed (iirc only 2 left now) that entire game arc may be gone for good (i really hope not)

a very tasty CG for the weekend as well with a lot of goodies up for the people who take part.

loads of weapons for everyone, and then even more for those in the top 75% and 50%

I have a day off tomorrow, so if anyone plays in the mobius PG and see commander Mad Mike i will say hello now........ because chat sucks in elite playing in VR.

........ because chat sucks in elite playing in VR.
Haha, yeah, it's the biggest downside of VR for me (not that I'm overly sociable anyway). Especially since I don't even have a keyboard near me when I'm playing in VR - I'm just sat on a chair in the middle of my room-scale play area.

I tried setting up some canned comms in Voice Attack, so I could at least tell people I was listening but couldn't reply, but couldn't get them working right.

I'm also in Mobius, but not sure when I'll be playing. I'll keep an eye out, and try to keep you outside of modshard scatter radius :D

Don't forget to turn off "Report crimes against me"!

One of the other players in the instance you were in earlier, judging by your posts on the CG forum :p
lol yeah would appear so. currently having to be v careful as I have notioriety of 1 so can't pay off bounty. it's my 1st time getting it so it's new to me

with the bugs, rubber banding and the nature of the anti thargoid weapons report crimes really needs to be off in MP instances for thargoid hunting
I panicked a bit when I read your message as I thought maybe someone had accused me of attacking them ... thankfully not as I play in a PvE group which would get me banned.

Update Notes

Features of Note:

Powerplay 2
  • Pledge to your Power! - all Commanders will be unpledged when Powerplay 2 goes live, this wont incur any penalties for affected Commanders and you will be able to pledge anew straight away.
  • Show your loyalty - each Power has it's own rewards that it bestows upon it's agents as they rank up and prove their loyalty.
  • Perk up! - each Power has it's set of perks that players can unlock via the loyalty system these can affect things like bounty payouts or faction rep gain to name a few.
  • Modules for everyone! - each Power will now reward their agents with access to all Powerplay modules, unlock order will differ between Powers however.
  • Have a care - Powers reward care packages through the loyalty system that give players a boost to their credit and engineering materials supply
  • Competitive spirit - compete with your fellow agents to see who can earn the most merits for their power in a given week, participants will be rewarded with credits and the top 10 will be shown off next week
  • A galactic view - new Powerplay galaxy map modes and filters let you access the information you need quicker, and in greater detail.
  • A new challenger approaches - Nakato Kaine and Jerome Archer are stepping into Powerplay, Kaine as the newest Alliance power and Archer taking over from Zachary Hudson for the Federation
  • Actions have consequences - gain control or reinforce your Power’s systems and undermine your opponents by engaging in Powerplay-related activities, including the new ability to hack and repair holoscreens on Stations and Outposts.
  • Assign me up - take on weekly assignments given to you by your Power, based on your rank and current location. These include a variety of tasks, including gaining an amount of Bounty Vouchers or uploading Powerplay malware to Settlements.
  • Every contribution matters - engaging in regular activities throughout the galaxy now contributes to your Power, across various aspects of the game including Bounty Hunting, Trading and more. For example, handing in exploration data to one of your Power’s systems will count as a contribution.
  • Appearance is everything - Powers are now much more apparent when visiting stations. Depending on the Power, and their level of control, you will now see varying levels of support for them as you move around the area. From station exteriors to the concourse and even hangars, controlling Powers are being represented more than ever before.
  • A display of strength - when systems are pushed into a Stronghold state, you may now find Stronghold Carriers present. These Stronghold Carriers act as a superior market, on the same level as Jameson Memorial, however you can only dock if you are pledged to the Power in the system.
  • Or a perfect opportunity? - if you’re a veteran Commander pledged to a hostile Power, Stronghold Carriers can be a great target. From disabling turrets to scanning data links, there are multiple ways to engage in undermining activity. Be careful though, these Carriers will be hostile towards you!
  • It’s who you know - Powerplay Contacts are found in ports and act as a central hub for all other contacts related to Powerplay. They’re also the place to collect your care packages, as well as Power related commodities and data, used for undermining and reinforcing.
  • Powers on patrol - new Powerplay security vessels are present in any system controlled by a Power and guard against incursion from other Powers.
  • Staunch supporters - you will now find Power aligned vessels as part of the ambient traffic in appropriate locations throughout the galaxy.
  • Streamlined success - The following elements have been removed from Powerplay, providing a more streamlined and rewarding experience: Merit degradation, Voting system for expansions, Defection effects (leaving a Power now only resets your progression), Connections to government types

Mandalay
  • Dreams of flying - the Mandalay, a brand-new ship from Zorgon Peterson, is here. Venture forth into the unknown in style with the next generation of exploration ship, available on the Elite Dangerous Gamestore now.
  • Helm the Mandalay - with the most fuel-efficient SCO drive of any new ship to date, coupled with room for a large Fuel Scoop, travelling to those far-away systems and distant Earth-like planets is easier than ever before.
  • Cutting through the milky way - with six hardpoints and fantastic maneuverability, the Mandalay is no easy target.
  • To the stars that none yet dare - as well as an expansive view from the front canopy, the Mandalay boasts an additional viewport at the bottom of the cockpit, giving you great visibility when landing or taking in a beautiful vista.

Powerplay Banner Cosmetics
  • Rrepresent your Power with these new Powerplay Banner ship kit pieces, available for every Power and every ship on the Elite Dangerous Gamestore.

To Note:
  • Powerplay ranks will be reset when Ascendancy is available. You will need to pledge to a power if you wish to get involved with Powerplay on release.

it's interesting , and it's very good seeing some actual work put into the game for new features.... but as ever the proof in the pudding will be in the eating.
only minor disappointment for me.... years ago I went out into the black and got my name on a few interesting systems and tagged them for future colonisation potential.

however realistically I don't think I will be able to with this feature . As I understand it colonisation will branch out from the bubble so If I want to get to "my" system 10,000ly out of the bubble I would need to make a corridor out there which isn't practical.

never mind it may still be cool

to be honest I am itching to get back in and check out some of the new stuff in this power play update.... but child care and chores means it's not gonna happen and am away for the next 10 days :(

If FD put in a well thought out, varied, procedural plant engine based on terrain and stellar forge, ideally with better atmospheric rendering, I'd be back in th the game like a shot. But more ships? Revamped Powerplay? Mediocre first person shooting? New system colonization grind? Etc..? No interest...

I'm not sure I can imagine the level of grind involved that FD will add for getting a system colonised...
genuinely the grind has pretty much gone out of the game now.. of course the new PP2 or the colonisation may have grind now. but money is forced down your throat and engineering materials are handed out like confetti.
any materials you are short of either you can get rewarded for missions or just swap them at material traders.
if you have not played in the last 4 months I think you will find it's changed massively on that front.

also the new SCO drives mean that in system travel is now super fast as well
