The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I've not played this in about 3 years, but after the slightly disappointing news that No Mans Sky being delayed and Star Citizen not really going anywhere exciting for the time being, I need a Sci Fi fix. After a long long spell out, what you guys think? possible to get back into it? much changed?

Why not? new people join every day. changes are too many to list you'll have to log in and find out yourself. The game is in a much better state now thats for sure.

I'm a bitter vet that doesn't approve of the skill injectors. I had to train for months to get an iteron V and you can do it in hours these days with injectors. Not to mention losing it twice when I forgot to update clone and lost some sp after being podded.

But I do like no longer having o pay stupid money for clone refreshes

Is it easy to make money in eve now to buy plex to keep playing?
It has been many years since i played, had a wee trial run recently, but bar a donation of plex or similar to get going, i do not feel like I want to spend money subscribing again.

So can on be self funded and if ao, how much time are people spending funding their plex?

Only recently come back to the game myself and kick started my old corp.. Its been a while. If you don't have to pay for new clones then that's a bargain.. OH and my carriers are now 'fax machines' (Ancillary support)

Slowly getting back into the swing of things, back to null hopefully in a few weeks.

Did you buy the 19 bn isk with real money ?

No. I run a lot of tag missions; Enemies Abound 5 of 5 gives 60-70 Mil per day (I don't blow up the gate so it resets with the server reset so I can farm each instance for a week). I can have 1-12 EA5 active on one character at once (I have 3 toons). I had 25 Bil in cash on that one, just built up over time.

The pull back in...

I've never got further than starting the first chain of 'missions' after the tutorial. But for some weird reason, I'm feeling the pull back into this game...

I like the idea of exploring. I don't like the idea of jumping back on the character I spent 2 weeks on playing last time however, simply as I feel it will be a wasted venture. Even though there are a few ships on that character already.

Feeling torn, do I play or not? Do I just accept it's a phase and not play? My biggest gripe last time was that I loved it, but had no real view of what can and can't be done. I don't know what happens later in game, I don't know where I stand in the universe of EVE. The stupidly long process of getting into EVE Uni put me off that as well as I grew tired of waiting for them to contact me. Which will likely hinder any future applications.

I just want to find a newbie friendly corp, have some fun, maybe go exploring for rare loots and stuffs. Have fun.

Again, I could do this with any MMO so I've no idea why I've got that pull back to EVE Online :(

I haven't played Eve properly since I think 2010...had a 7 day free pass I used maybe 2012.

I still get the odd urge to re-sub BUT I remind myself that to play Eve is almost like having a 2nd life which robs the 1st life of sleep!! Still get the urge though lol

Yeh Eve Uni can be a pain to get into, got a friend trying to do so at the moment and he has been waiting on and off maybe 2 weeks to get the initial interview
Getting to the point where I might drag him into KICK despite it being less newbie friendly because atleast there are active helpful people around most if not all days. Might be worth looking at Pandemic Horde, they're pretty newbie friendly and whilst I don't think they provide tuition to the same level as Eve Uni they still do a decent amount. To my knowledge they're nowhere near as frustrating to apply to either.

I'd not necessarily be put off by reusing the old account, there are plenty of people who return after long absenses and get stuck in properly. Think you're only likely to have issues if you try applying immediately after resubbing - might end up with some hoops to jump through before being accepted. That said, if you only had a handful of T1 ships you probably won't miss out on much from starting a new character.

Is there a simple way to transfer all my goodies to a new character? I'll jump on my current one for now and see how I get on.

No "simple" way that I can think of, you might be able to work around it by doing an hours for plex thing to resub the old account for 4 hours, then trade it to the new one. But I think there are limitations on trading/contracting for brand new (and maybe hours for plex) accounts. You might have to improvise by ejecting stuff into a can and scooping it on the other character or similar.

Wow, just looked at the serpentis event and got a couple of toons to the 1st 10k reward mark and then checked the mineral requirements for the vehement dreadnaught. If stats on parts from bpc are correct then it's total build is just under that of a mothership. Can't see many being built as a mom would be better. And your going to be instantly primaries when u siege

So, resubbed (with an offer for 2 months for the price of 1!), started a new character. I've done all the exploration training missions, now working through the others. I certainly would like to do exploration. So once I'm one, I'll start working on skill books.

What is the best start for getting into exploration? What is the general jist of it?

Yeh the faction capitals are crazy money, I'd be surprised if many ever get used outside except by rich players in C5/C6 WH space - where they'll never have to worry about facing supers. They'll potentially have their uses there I'd imagine.

Agnes - regarding exploration, reading the following is probably a good place to start if you haven't already:
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Exploration
You can initially start off scanning and running data/relic sites in highsec which won't involve much if any risk before then either working towards Null/LS (where you'll just have the risk of PvP) or WH space (where you have the PvP risk + have to fight NPCs)

Getting into a covert ops ship is recomended, nice bonus to hacking and a cloak to boot. Alternatively a less skill intensive but more isk expensive option would be an Astero faction frigate.
