The *Official* Eve Online Thread

If it's a mobile warp disruptor, you are stuffed.

If it's a ship module, it depends on which type they have and how many are in use on you.

Each Warp Corp Stabliser adds +1 to your Warp Drive Stability attribute.

Standard Warp Disruptors (ship fitted) have a 20km range and a warp scramble strength of 1. If you have 1 warp corp stabiliser fitted, you can escape.

Standard Warp Scramblers have a 7.5km range and scramble strength of 2. You need to have 2 warp corp stabil's to get away from these.

Your biggest defence for not getting pwned whilst ratting in insecure space is the Local channel.

Keep one eye trained on it at all times and when someone enters the channel, they have just entered the system. View their profile, think they smell ? Then Safe spot, to be extra safe don't try and dock and most definately do not go to a star gate.

2 warp care stabilsers and you shouldn't have any problems, at a guess. you may be able to get away with one warp core Stab. the max warp scramber strenght i've seen it 2 @ 10km and under. each core stabilizer gives you 1. you have to equal or over do there scrambel strenth as I understand it.

When ratting, sniper setups are always safer than tanking setups (strangely enough). If you're ratting in a tanked BS, close to the belt marker, then you'll get scrambled by the NPCs, and if enemies come to the belt, you'll be in serious trouble. If you're in a sniping BS (and providing you have good sniping BMs), then you should be pretty safe. I make my sniping BMs 130KM above or below the belt (optimal range). Not only does this prevent players warping in on top of you, but also, the rats don't spawn above or below the belt, so you're almost garunteed to come out at exactly the right distance from them :)

If I'm sniping rats in a system, and an enemy jumps in, I don't need to warp out instantly, because I know that as long as I'm lined up for a safespot (roughly), then I'll have plenty of time to warp out before they reach me, and if they don't warp in, then so much the better, I can finish my spawn :D

The only downside to sniping is you can't chain (atleast not effectively) and you are get schtuffled if their are multiple scramming frigs and they are mega quick like some of the ones I regularly rat (2.5k/s :|) These are normally just with officer spawns though.

Yet another question.... I've heard you guys talking about ASCN and 'the goldmine' that is 0.0 space... if I'm 'rat hunting in 0.0, am I likely to meet similar rats to those in secure space, or do they tend to be bigger ships, ie more cruisers, battle cruisers, and battleships than the frigates that tend to populate the secure space belts?

Are the bounties more as well? Biggest rat bounty I've seen so far was 150K for a rat in a mission, so if the bounties are much higher in 0.0 with the major risk being other players, I'm going to get on over, join the corp, and find out what all the fuss is about!

What do you think, should I buy and kit out a small fast ship, an incursus springs nicely to mind, bring my Brutix, or sell the Brutix, and buy another Thorax and kit it out with the revised setup discussed earlier?

That's true, but if you leave one cruiser alive (if there are any) and go to another belt, they should respawn somewhere else. Besides, I'd rather be safe than sorry :)
Anyway, I can kill those frigs before they reach me, 2 volleys does it :D

I encountered a 5.5mil rat the other night with an escort of two 1mil battleships :)
Average battleship rats in 0.0 are 500k bounty.

I've got to that awkward stage where I'm still pretty newbie-ish at the game but getting bored of what I'm doing :o So I need some suggestions of what next.
Mainly been doing missions which has been ok but got dull lately. Not really done much else.

Just wondering if someone could give me a list of suggestions. Wouldn't mind being able to make some isk as it'd be nice to get a new ship eventually (using an incursus atm) but the main thing I want is fun :D

To be able to rat in 0.0 you quite frankly need a battleship (or HAC with very good relevant skills (+ t2 modules))

We do have the odd member here and there who joined without battleships, but they were not able to solo anything.

You could always join and get involved in a group mining session that are always occuring, get some lovely ores and rake in ~30-40mill per hour :)

ASCN 4TW!

Lots of battleships in 0.0. You get them on gates sometimes too ;).

Highest bounty I've seen in a belt was a True Sansha something or other and he was 3.5 million. (With one million battleship escorts and four interceptors)

Largest I've encountered was a Cybon Mizuro officer, 8mill bounty and she dropped ~200mills worth of Domination loot.

That took a group of us to kill though as it was just too much for anyone to solo. (accompanied by 2 warlords (1mill), 2 generals (750k), 2 commanders (500k) and an assortment of cruisers and 8 scrambling frigs.)

Largest solo spawn was a True Sansha Tyrant, 3mill iirc.

Well, you could always venture into 0.0 space if you're feeling up to it. If you do, I'd reccomend you join a decent, experienced 0.0 corp first. STK Scientific is an option, and the British Space Corps is always open for new recruits :)
Can't speak for STK, but the BSC is based in and around the Tribute area of space, and has access to plenty of high-level rats and ore, plus plenty of PvP
If you take a Thorax or Osprey, or an MB, then you'll be able to mine with us, and you could also join in with fleet ops as a tackler in a frig.

STK Scientific is a member of Ascendant Frontier [ASCN] they claim Impas and Feythabolis as their own space.
