The *Official* Eve Online Thread

im jsut dumbstruck that the experienced members are letting the new players get on with it

Experienced? Yes.

Experienced in combat? No.

tbh, i'd be about as much use as a pointy stick against a hurricane.

A pointy stick has many uses, it can be employed to extract termites from a termite mound, it can ward of a mouse (if the mouse is very timid), you can catch a fish with it.

But stand in front of a hurricane with it and you're as stupid as you look...

Sure, im not particularly experienced in combat either, but i give it a try when required. But a fleet of ships is not a hurricane and it can be combated by a smaller fleet of ships. If you loose 10 frigates worth 10mill to kill a 30mill t2 frigate id say you were doing a decent job.

Anyways, im leaving this as it is now, ive poked my nose into business that is not mine and have narked some people in the process. So best of luck to you all in the empire war.

It was a metaphor Dan...

And my main reason is that I DO NOT play the game for PvP and DO NOT want to be forced into it by a bunch of griefers who haven't got the balls to go and do proper PvP in 0.0.

Lack of Experience in combat is why I'd be no use helping the other members by getting blown up and losing 400mill in implants, especially after most of my fortune was pumped into OcUK o get it back on its feet after the corp theft.

If some people who do have experience want to come along and help (Garp, more than welcome mate) then it will be a helluva lot more use.

Thankyou Dymetrie im fully aware that it was a metaphor, my point was it isnt exactly applicable to this scenario, it would be applicable if you were all flying ibis's.

I can understand you thinking you wouldnt be much use if you have little experience, initally i was the same, but one more body in a ship is increasing the groups DPS regardless of experience. I can understand you not wanting too loose your implants, i really can i currently have a full set of +3, my alt recently lost his implants, and i can tell you it is a liberating experience, increased the fun in the game for me by a factor of 10 now that i had nothing to worry about, id reccomend it :P

Think I will start my trial later, if anyone could give advice as to what skill to train 1st also what race is best to start with (i assume certain races have bonuses for certain things?) that would be great.

I want to be a PvP most probably join a fighting corp if pos so really want to focus on the skills for that. Also would like to know what the best ship to start with.

Sorry to be a pain and thanks in advance.

Breeze, if you can put up with my opinionated carp :P feel free to join the d-f-c channel and tell them i sent you.

As for race it makes little difference, if you want to be combat orientated makesure you have attribute points highest in this order: (highest)Perception, memory, intelligence, willpower, charisma (lowest). But you must ensure they are still relatively balanced,

It is best to train all learning skills to a decent level to save time in the long run, however this will limit your advancement in the short term somewhat.

Thanks Dan.

I presume there is a list of channels in the actual game? I wont be on till just after 5.00pm gotta go do some work in a minute for a change.

Tell me about it mate, im gonna get my ass spanked for debating with dymetrie while at work all day :P

Add me to msn mate, il be home about 6pm danielpluck999 at hotmail dot com.

There isnt a list, you jsut click on the channel icon and then click "create/join channel" then type D-F-C in the box, then click join. Il give you a hand once im home from work. You would probably benefit by trawling through the tutorial asap.

There's no actual channel listing, but under the channels option you'll just need to type in "d-f-c" (i assume that's your channel dan) under create/join.

Dan is 100% correct, for combat then you'll want guns and ships, so charisma as low as possible is the best bet (only useful for trade and that kind of stuff), and bumping your learning skills up first is a must as each point you increase your attributes by reduces training times immensely.

[edit]
doh, too slow :/

but Dan, work is just spare time for browsing forums... Isn't it?

Youy need to change your advrtising, your not "Introducing people to the game" your meerly showing them one or two things.

How so?

OcUK corp provides a place for new players from OcUK forums primarily, to come into the game, get into a corp with friendly faces, learn stuff about how to fly, how to set up ships etc, and get introduced to both the industrial aspect of the game and the combat aspect of the game through missions. From there OcUK has good relations with both DanSolo's corp (or used to have ;) j/k), Squirrels of War and STK Scientific, so that players can go on to do PvP, or whatever. Its big advantage has always been (up until now) its lack of wars. STK is forever in one or other empire war as part of ASCN, and for a new player that can make life extremely difficult, giving the game a very hard learning curve.
OcUK does introduce players to the game, and does provide training, in fact the only area of the game it doesn't participate in is PvP, and thats just one element of many.
The word introduce literally means "To provide (someone) with a beginning knowledge or first experience of something"

*snip*

Because what If people want to jump straight into PvP if they have come from other MMO's they may prefer the PvP rather then PvE, Like I said it's introducing to part of the game.
And Is a place garanteed in Squirrel Of War or STK-S? No. So that isn't a valuble point.

Personally, I wouldn't count most of the game with the exception of PvP 'one or two things', but how would I know, I've only been playing it for eighteen months.

Fine, people want to do PvP, I know this... Hell, six months ago most of OcUK went on to do PvP. But in an Empire corporation which has a lot of fledgling characters it's not fair to those who don't want to do PvP (or at least feel they are not ready for it)

OcUK offers a base for individual members to start from. At no point have I or any of the previous CEO's claimed it to be the comprehensive guide to Eve, and to be honest I'd feel like a bit of a charlatan to claim that.

No, there are no guarantees that when members want to continue on to PvP they will have a place in STK, Squirrels or D-F-C, but there's no guarantee they'd get into those corps from the off anyway.

Soooo to answer the question is OcUK an introduction to EVE overall or an introduction to parts of EVE?

Shall we change the subject, again Muffin?

You've gone from stating OcUK are not an Introductory corp, to they are an introductory corp, but only for some apsects of the game..

What will you be saying next??
"OcUK only introduce you to some of the game, but because they don't give you a guided tour of every system in the EVE Galaxy in a Topless Megathron, it is not a proper introduction?"
