**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Just a quick question. The Pixel has unlimited Photo storage with Google until end of 2020. Can I transfer the photos to my desktop and upload to Google Photos and it accepts it being free or must it always be uploaded from the phone?

Also if I transfer them to the desktop and then back to the phone at a later date can they be uploaded for free again?

Once in Google Photos and deleted from the phone does it server lower resolution when on data?

Thanks.

Installed the July security patch last night and today is the first time since owning the phone I haven't had the wifi freeze and had to switch it off/on again! Really hope it's fixed..

Glad I got stuck in with the beta.

So far only found two issues. When do not disturb is on I still find, particularly in the Twitter App, that liking something generates the sound. Whereas previously it would not.

And my Pocket Sergeant app no longer works. I've spoken to the developer though and it is in hand.

I've owned the 2xl for around 6 months now and I've come to the conclusion that Google branded devices are the most overhyped around, it's been one of the worst phones I've had overall in recent years. I've probably had a Friday afternoon job but still ...

- Problems with WiFi constantly disconnecting. It's the only device in my inventory that has a problem

- Quite often apps will stop loading data even when WiFi is connected. Facebook is a good example. Open comments, get spinning wheel. Disconnect from WiFi comments load.

- Weird bugs everywhere, like yesterday I was typing and it took me to another app while I was in the middle of typing randomly and I lost everything I was typing

- Had lots of problems with the finger print reader but they seem to be resolved, either by me cleaning it with alcohol or a software update

- Gboard has completely lost its accuracy for me. Constantly gets words wrong and glide typing often seems to refuse to work at all until you've had quite a few attempts. Replaced with swiftkey which is much better.

- Screen clearly not as good as flagship should be. It doesn't bother me but it is worth mentioning on a device that originally cost £800

- Bluetooth issues, it refuses to connect automatically to my speaker and when you do connect it manually it only works properly if you disable the HD audio. I have no other problems with any device and this speaker.

- Speaking of which no headphone jack (which to be fair I knew when I got it) is a pain, and when listening with Bluetooth headphone I get occasional audio dropouts. I'm sure glad it's not my primary audio device. The dongle lasted just a few weeks before it was too unreliable to use.

- This morning I tried to upload to Google drive and it refused to work at all until I cleared data and cache and uninstall updates. I have regular issues with apps refusing to work.

- Chromecast works when it feels like it. Often have to restart my phone. My old Samsung worked flawlessly with it as does my iOS devices.

OK I'm sure you'll all be along to tell me mine is knackered and nobody has any problems but if this is the best Google can do then I won't be back to another pixel device any time soon.

I will add to the above that it's such a shame because when it does work properly its fantastic, blazing fast and just a nice thing but all of the above really take the shine off it for me. Its a little bit like the Alfa Romeo of phones.

I can honestly say, of all of those issues I only notice the swype sometimes not working for shorter words. A lot of your other issues just point towards some kind of WiFi issue...

It's weird as I can watch it disconnect at home repeatedly. It tends not to affect things too much as the 4g kicks in and takes over. I don't notice it anywhere else. Maybe it doesn't like my BT router for some reason.

I'm not sure if the Facebook comments are my phone or just FB being crap

Google drive and Gmail both refused to let me upload a file this morning either on WiFi or mobile data and even after a restart. I had to reset the apps to get it to work. I often seem to have to do this.

I've had the WiFi issues on several phones in the past, Samsung S7, Oneplus 5 and my 2XL included. But only ever at work on the corporate WiFi network. Never had these issues at home using standard consumer grade kit.

I'm trying to remember if I had the same or similar on my old Samsung, can't be sure. Maybe my expectations are too high for any device, I dunno ... People say to me "I thought you liked it" and I do, but there's always something.

So again it did it just now. I press the comments button on a Facebook thread and it just sits there with the spinning wheel. Disconnect from WiFi and try again and it loads instantly.

It did it chrome before when replying to a thread.

Very unreliable but of course when I really try to make it happen it works every time.

If I had all those issues with this phone, i'd end up throwing it. (or rma'ing it)

I've honestly not had any issues with the apps, the keyboard, wifi or bluetooth
I use bluetooth to connect to a pair of minirig speakers every day

My earpiece has started rattling on higher volumes.... :(

Bought in November, do you think Google will replace it?

July update seems have mostly fixed the WiFi issue for me. Was getting several disconnects a day, had 1-2 over the last week, so a great improvement, if not fully resolved.
