Bigger is just one of the factors in being better
Depends on a user's needs imo. Bigger can sometimes be worse for day-to-day usage.

That is also fine (I have likewise bought the Pixel 2)
You pay £170 and decide if it's worth the money over the 2, the size is just one factor in that.

On the topic of screens, this is my problem with the pixel 2:
Similar sized body yet the GS 8 has a screen, which is 0.8" bigger.........
And the GS 8 is £150 cheaper.....
The S8 screen really jumps out at you and looks great.
But in reality stuff just isn't formatted for the screen most of the time. OK you scroll a bit less on a webpage, but otherwise so what? I'm not a die hard Google fanboy, I just simply don't get the benefits of 18:9 other than bragging rights.
Plus you are stuck with Samsung software/Bixby![]()
It means you can hold it with the same ease of a smaller screen but get more vertical real estate. Like anything it'll take time for software to adjust to it.
It's looks better and you get more screen how is that not a tangible benefit?Yes but you still haven't given me a tangible benefit of this additional height![]()

More of a webpage fits on screen at the same time, more posts/comments on reddit, more icons in your launcher etc. Most software will make use of the additional pixels to display more content at one time.
The 6" display on the P2XL can display the same amount of 16:9 content as a 5.5" 16:9 screen, as the screens are almost exactly the same landscape height.
It is only media that has a problem, if you want to call it that, with an 18:9 display. You'll have some black bars to the sides, but you are not losing out in physical size of the video vs a similarly sized 16:9 panel.
Same goes for photos. a 5.5" 16:9 panel vs a 6" 18:9 makes no compromises when displaying widescreen 16:9 photos.
Pretty much this.
As someone who does a lot of browsing via web + reddit, the bigger screen and 18.9 is of great benefit.
I don't really watch much on my phone either, only a bit of youtube and black bars don't bother me.
To be fair most movies are done in 21:9, so that means smaller bars anyway on the 18:9 screen v's 16:9. In fact, you can view a movie using the full display with no bars and only lose a tiny bit of the content. I can't see any downsides to 18:9
