**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

On the topic of screens, this is my problem with the pixel 2:

Similar sized body yet the GS 8 has a screen, which is 0.8" bigger.........

And the GS 8 is £150 cheaper.....

The retail s8 is more expensive than pixel 2 but amazon for some reason sells them at ~150 discount to retail price, you guys know why this is the case, as far as I am aware they are the only ones?

I wanted to upgrade my good old iphone 6 and was thinking of iphone 8 vs pixel 2 but as Nexus mentioned S8 seems like quite a good choice and if one can get it for less than pixel 2 then seems like a better choice, no (excluding camera arguments as I do not really care for it)?

Sure, if you aren't bothered by any of the Samsung software the S8 hardware is better than the Pixel so go for it.

A lot of us do like Goggle's purer version of Android but not everyone cares.

For those that have downloaded the Android 8.1 Developer Preview 1 last week and noticed that the Pixel Video Core that uses the custom chip introduced by Google to make further improvements to its camera (HDR+ functionality) was not included, it appears now that Pixel Video Core will be introduced in the Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 expected to drop in Late November.

To confirm, Pixel Visual Core is Google’s first custom-designed co-processor for image processing and machine learning on consumer devices.

I am looking forward to getting my Pixel 2 XL order in a couple of weeks and playing with those apps that can take advantage of the Pixel camera.

The galaxy s8 is cheaper pretty much every where online. Just look at google shopping. Don't think I can mention them (due to competitor with ocuk) but if you google and look under shopping, one place with decent enough ratings have them on sale for £462.

As those who follow reviews will know, Sean Hollister of CNET has discussed the "burn-in" issue at some length and decided to raise their concern directly with Google yesterday as they discuss in their note.

Bottom line: Google making software changes soon and warranty to cover some possible display related defects for those that experience them. Google has tested a "statistically significant" number of Pixel 2 XL's recently without finding any defective units.

And it looks like the Australian's are impressed with the new 2s!

Noticed last night my 4g icon disappeared from.thr navy bar. Could still see.my signal strength and instill had fast mobile data. Thought I'd disable and enable mobile data tosee if that would force it to show again. Then noticed there doesn't appear to a toggle for mobile data on and off.

Any idea how I toggle this on and off? Don't want to get caught out abroad/ out of the EU zone.

Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage > Mobile data toggle :)

No one cares until 3 months down the line when battery is poor and performance sluggish. Then they seem to forget by the time their upgrade comes round

I'm sorry, I've tried giving you the benefit of the doubt, but you are definitely 110% a Google employee. Every post on this thread is disproving any negative statement. You don't discuss, you just try and disprove.

:D

Just the style of writing too - I thought you had copied
"Bottom line: Google making software changes soon and warranty to cover some possible display related defects for those that experience them. Google has tested a "statistically significant" number of Pixel 2 XL's recently without finding any defective units." from
from the source, but YOU wrote it. You literally sound like you're writing for the Google version of a North Korean newspaper or something.

"There's something wrong with the display"

"No there isn't"

"There clearly is - look at this blue tint, and screen burn"

"What blue tint? What screen burn? We, I mean Google, have tested a Statistically Significant (biggest indicator yet) number of Pixel 2 XL's with no defective units"

:p

It was also a ridiculous interpretation of the original source as he neglected to mention these key lines from the article

Google still doesn't believe any of the screen issues it's seen so far -- both internally and floating around the web -- qualify as a defect. Unless your phone has an unusually problematic screen, that warranty may still not apply.

And....

Bottom line: Don't expect Google's warranty to cover any unhappiness you might have with blue shift.

So yes, Google has found no defective units because they don't count burn in as a defect :p:p

Likely because theres no real incentive to do so, I dont think Samsung offering a stock android rom would increase their sales as dramatically as some seem to think.

There may be a tiny increase, and that's all. That's the reason why Samsung and HTC never made another Google Play Edition of their respective flagships. The general public at large doesn't even understand that Android runs on both the S8 and the Moto G5 for example. So why they'd suddenly flock in their masses to buy a stock version of the S8 I'm not really sure.

I don't think he's a Google employee...yet.
But if he ever applies for a job there in PR the threads on this subject forum would make for an excellent case for him. Hell... I'd give him the job based on his posts!

Google play editions didn't get enough advertising. I think if Samsung marketed it properly, and explained how there's a performance difference etc, people would definitely buy it over a skinned version. Otherwise people just go "oh it looks different, I don't want it"
