**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Google play editions didn't get enough advertising. I think if Samsung marketed it properly, and explained how there's a performance difference etc, people would definitely buy it over a skinned version. Otherwise people just go "oh it looks different, I don't want it"
And why would they do something like that? lol

Personally even if marketed the skinned version would sell better than non skinned.
Stock android is nice but I feel theres a very distorted view that stock is the most appealing version to the masses.

Theres just no incentive for Samsung to do a stock or a Pixel Galaxy S8 equivalent for example.
They've built there brand already and its going extremely well for them.

I'm sure Google would love for Samsung to jump aboard the Pixel train, but lets be honest here Samsung would have the barganing power in that particular setup.

I'm not saying they will, or would, just how they could get people to buy it if they did. I don't think you're right about skinned version selling better - one thing I hear about why people love iPhones all the time is how they're always the same. And from experience working in JL selling phones, many people found it confusing that even though Samsung, HTC and Motorola all use Android, they're different. Slightly different in the way they operate etc.

The problem is, is that rubbish marketers are making design choices. Instead of having making useful differentiators, they're just sticking any random stuff in there, just so they can get a "one-up". Bixby being one of the obvious points (and the stupid button to go along with it). HTC had UltraPixel, which was just a marketing term for 4MP camera. The squeeze feature is gimmicky in the HTC phones, but more useful in the Pixel 2 (XL). It at least encourages you to use the assistant more, which is useful.

suggesting sesevans is a google employee although a funny joke, surely no one is serious in thinking that Google would pay someone to post on a forum to what, convince 5 people maybe that were on the fence to continue buying this phone. harldy worth it? he's certainly a fan, a very big one at that, but i imagine notinf more

What bar ? You have 3 icons. Pretty sure the burn came from the icons. Either way it fades fast on 8.1. I am sure that will make a big difference.

The navigation bar that houses the icons, most likely from the launcher/home screen as there's a translucent bar at the bottom of the screen.

See this picture, there's a bar that houses the icons that is also different to the rest of the screen.

The update will try and keep the bar white at all possible times and have the icons fade to grey after a few seconds when not in use.

Surely that'll increase the retention of the nav bar? Being white on a more frequent basis will mean that area of the screen is lit for longer periods of time?

The icons are currently burnt in the most as they're white more frequently. The nav bar is black most of the time outside of the launcher, or hidden in full screen/immersive mode. Making that white for longer periods of time is just going to make the nav bar burn in more obvious.

Anyway, I guess we'll see - I hope they fix it!

If you look at the picture you linked, then making the nav bar white instead of black on things like a Web browser will make the screen degradation more even.

But the browser isn't always there. The screen burn happens as the navbar is always there, so making it black would surely be the helpful move?

Yeah I am pretty sure the 8.1 has laid the foundations for the fix and possible pixel only update if need be. I know they will push a pixel update to open up wider ranges in colours
