**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

It's not looking rosy and stuff for the Pixel 2 as of late: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/7amm91/nathan_k_on_pixel_2_xl_the_reports_of_slow/

I'm actually glad the XL2 ended up not meeting expectations, because had I got one, I'd be really annoyed right about now with all these issues and oversights.

For £900 odd, I expect close to zero hassle in the product I buy.

You should read some official reviews. Rather than one person who can't charge his phone for whatever reason.

Surely that'll increase the retention of the nav bar? Being white on a more frequent basis will mean that area of the screen is lit for longer periods of time?

The icons are currently burnt in the most as they're white more frequently. The nav bar is black most of the time outside of the launcher, or hidden in full screen/immersive mode. Making that white for longer periods of time is just going to make the nav bar burn in more obvious.

Anyway, I guess we'll see - I hope they fix it!
That's only half of the problem. Look at what happens with notification bar burn in: Most notification bars are black but the notification bar is one usually of the first signs of burn in you'll see on an oled. Not because the bar itself has caused any excessive wear on the screen, but because everything else has. If you display a black box in the middle of a white screen for long enough on an oled, you'll see a permanent box just as you would if the box was white and the screen was black. The best solution for the nav bar / notification bar issues is to try and keep the contrast and colour as close the the content directly above/below them as possible. Either that or hide them completely. The first thing Samsung did when users started reporting navbar burn in on the S8/S8+ was to limit the choice of colours you could chose from to a set of neutral off-white options and set the default behaviour to hide.

OLED shelf life is still rubbish. I read an article recently that said Samsung will never be bringing oled tech to their TVs, at least not in its current form, because they dont last more than a couple of years!.

Has anyone with a Pixel 2 received anything about the Google Home Mini?

Oddly, mine was sent out with the phone from EE, even though I was told when I ordered it that I'd get an online code to use to buy one after 14 days (return period etc).

Mate got his from CPW and they've been trying to worm out of pre-ordered Mini for some Pixel 2 owners, and he had to resort to threatening to send the phone back, then outing them on Twitter to get them to honour the deal.

Other mate with a direct Google pre-order hasn't heard anything yet, but I believe that was supposed to be 2 weeks after delivery no?

Seems to be inconsistent as to how the fulfillment is being handled.

Strange story about the friend who bought from CPW as my invoice specifically mentions first the Pixel 2 XL Panda and second the Google Home Mini. Hence, the first invoiced item was for £ 799 and the second invoiced item was for £ 0.00. Hence there is no wiggle room and nothing to negotiate or argue about. The CPW salesperson specifically confirmed it all when I ordered it last month and told me the Mini would be in the package I receive from them in a couple of weeks.

I presume your friend's pre-order invoice may have been different if he experienced this problem. Seems strange though if it were because his order falls within the "pre-order" period. If I recall correctly CPW's pre-order period runs until mid December.

I'm with you on this. I was all in on the Pixel XL2... and then is just been issue after issue. Having used one for three days this week, I just can't get past the screen...everything else is excellent...but the screen is too big an issue.

Strange story about the friend who bought from CPW <snip>.

Far from strange... They dodged left, right and centre, and I was listening to the call when he made the first query, when they said he wouldn't actually get one.

Order page now changed, so he had to dig through Wayback Machine and show them their own web site at the time he ordered (well before release day).

Quick Twitter search over the last couple of days will give you a few people having the same experience, and them having to argue with them.

How did you manage to get one for 3 days ?

I am still letting my order arrive and will make my mind up within a few days.

Still not seen a bad review from a trusted source infact quite the opposite. I don't pay much attention to Reddit. It's just like Twitter gives any idiot a voice.

I am concerned though but will make up my own mind. My concern is how bad is the blue tint and is screen burn gonna be a issue down the line.

I work for a US tech company and we had a UK summit this week...the phones issued as event devices were Pixel 2 XL's so that's what I had for week... Which had me excited and then ultimately disappointed.

Ok least you got to have a play, what disappointed the most ?

I'm in the same boat. I still have my pre order and I still want to love this phone. But my god Google are making it real hard to...

Sorry but that isn't a review.

If you actually look on Reddit you would see that the people complaining are the ones that actually have the device in hand.

As you said. I'm still going to have it delivered, and I'm hoping it will be a case of a bad batch or something. Sadly I just can't get past the screen issues. Bottom line is for the price it should be perfect.

The blue cast... not just the shift, but the screen I had was overcast blue and really cool across the board... which made everything look off on a white screen. Even pictures, whilst I could tell they were great... they were grey/blue overcast like some bad Instagram filter because of the screen. I can live with the duller colours (can be patched) but the coolness of the display and the blue cast was horrible. I had my S8 with me as well and playing stuff side by side the content looked completely different on the 2XL. Believe me, I tried to look past it, but every time I was on a web page or on google now it was brutal.

We are down in Weymouth, went into an EE shop, and again the PXL2 was dead. FFS.

If I were wearing my tin foil hat I'd say it's a conspiracy.....! :p

What are people's thoughts on the Pixel 2 (not XL) ? I know it has bezels, but that aside.
