**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

i saw a side by side picture of the iphone x and iphone 8. this whole talk about bezels just got me thinking what really is the point of having the screen go right up to the edge from top to bottom? what does that extra bit of space ever give anyone? i think in a few years time we will see the return of more sensible bezels. the PXL2 seems to be about right. why you'd want or need it any less i've no idea.

still miles better then any of the samsung phones imo for software

Not always strictly true, there are areas where Google have been massively behind OEMs. They've only just added Aptx Bluetooth support, heck even the Galaxy S3 had Aptx and that phone is now 5 years old.

Don't even get me started on Google Fit, it's so inaccurate it's not even funny. I'll go on long hikes and S Health (on my phone) and several different fit bit trackers that my friends have on them are all within 100 steps of each other. Google Fit from my LG Watch Sport is massively different. I can hold my S7 in my hand and watch the step counter increment by one for every step I take so I'm confident it's quite accurate.

What also annoys me about Google is the constant change in design principles their apps use. One minute app x will utilise a Hamburger menu, then it'll switch to bottom tabs, before switching back. Sometimes their app designs even go against their own material guidelines, like the Google Play store using nested tabs.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the S8 on Oreo. Almost as smooth as the Pixel XL I had but with more features. And that's from someone who HATED Samsung software from the S2 to the S7.

Almost as smooth on a phone with a much better processor than the Pixel XL - that's the problem.

I'm not sure I'd say the Exynos is a 'much better processor' than the 821. According to Anandtech it's barely better than last year's Exynos which was comparable with the 820.

I'm really impressed with oreo on the s8. It's not perfect and there are some niggle but for a first shot at an open beta it's very good imo

Is it noticeably faster than Nougat? Hopefully we may get some of the benefits on the S7 Edge. I keep thinking I want a new toy, but every time I think about what it would bring to the table for my £700+, I go off the idea again!

It's not perfect but it is noticeably better. Remember this is beta software, so there is plenty of time to polish.

In terms of single core performance, perhaps not. But it is nevertheless quicker, yet doesn't seem like it is so. Even the 6P feels quicker than an S7, and there's a big difference in performance there.

Edit: using a G6 at the moment and my god is it sluggish. Hiccups all over the place - it made me glad I didn't go for the V30 - I'd have been pretty annoyed paying full price for the G6, let alone an £800 phone!

Anyway, back on topic. Had a message from EE today to say my order was on track for delivery on the 15th. Except they've got the wrong address down.

I don't get how it's changed from the order confirmation to now :(

Thanks for reminding me. I have not had the same confirm from CPW so will chase them. Meanwhile, my phone, the Pixel 2 XL Panda is sold out on the Google Store as demand must be really strong. They did say about 10 days ago that demand was twice what it was for the first Pixels.

Did anyone see the latest ad as a trailer at the films this past weekend? This is what I saw, and the Panda is the featured Pixel phone:

What are people's thoughts on the Pixel 2 (not XL) ? I know it has bezels, but that aside.

Solid phone if you don't mind the bezels, in fact for a lot of people I'd say its the better option over the XL - All of the good bits none of the bad. :)

Ditched my 1XL for a standard 2 and I'd find it hard to switch up a size again now.

Bezels aren't a bother for me, the performance is stupidly good, the camera is just stunning, and overall I'm more than pleased.

Just upgraded to the Pixel 2 from an LG G4. Got to say, the bezels don't bother me (otherwise I would have looked for something else). Performance wise, it's stupidly quick. I like all the stock software (keyboard, dialer, messaging etc) and that camera!!!

If I end up with a second gen Pixel, it will likely also be the standard model. OK, it doesn't look as good, the battery life isn't quite as good, but otherwise, it's as good in every other area, and the screen is better and it's significantly cheaper, and with less pixels to push around, probably even faster than the XL - although whether you'd notice I can't say, but in theory, at least...

As an S7 Edge owner, I'm starting to wonder if really large screens are a bit overrated?

Not going to lie, I absolutely love the display on the G6. It is simply stunning. To the point where at times I forget I'm looking at an LCD display. And the extra height at this size is so nice. I'm definitely a fan of the taller display. BUT, it's right on the verge of it being annoying. Height wise, it's right on the cusp of being too tall, and making it hard to use. So I'm a little unsure how the Pixel 2 XL is going to be for me.

Will keep tabs on pixels updates and see if the screen issues resolve. Just seen Oneplus releasing a 5T with reduced bezels and uprated screen in a couple of weeks, will also keep tabs on that as I'm tired of my S7e.
