*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Had mine since Saturday morning - just can't stop playing with it! So much it can do...just tried a few Google apps to start with. Its pretty quick and isn't frustrating...

Having gone from a SE W850i (used for five years) this is a great change and leap forward for me - the Desire only cost me £90 :D

If on T-Mobile then get the content thing switched off by phoning customer service or via your account to access Android Market & YouTube...then reboot the phone ;)

Trying to save battery life a bit  think I may need a bigger Micro SDHC card soon...they supply a 4GB one

Only slight niggles are:

Dark brown fascia trim - not my fav colour

Notification area at top left corner is to small to grasp on touchscreen if you have large fingers - can be tricky to pull down

Battery life isn't poor but its not great either...best to keep only essentials 'on' perhaps it'll improve later

Can anybody suggest a good case for the Desire? Have seen one for the Nexus that looks nice. Am I right in thinking the case size of the Desire and Nexus are the same?

Am I right in thinking the case size of the Desire and Nexus are the same?

Nearly.

I've got a couple of the Ultra-case "The One" cases for my Nexus, or rather the OEM versions, and although the size is slightly different, it's near enough for those particular cases to fit fine with a little persuasion.

All the relevant Desire sockets, mic, earphone & buttons are literally in the same place as the Nexus, so it's a nice snug fit.

I've got a few screen protectors spare as well, but the Desire's screen's slightly smaller so I'd need to cut them to fit. don't really want to do that as there's a chance I'd fray the edges, so I'll just wait to get some proper fitted Desire ones.

The only dilemma I've got now is which phone do I keep? Nexus or Desire?...

Hacked off that you can't switch the Swype beta between devices, as it's locked to my Nexus. Pretty big loss for me to be honest, as Swype is stunningly good.

HTC Desire is now delayed on T-mobile due to some kind of ROM issue. Won't be available for at least another couple of weeks now. Saw it on stock news at work yesterday, hopefully there'll be an update on the situation when I go in tomorrow.

According to customer services thats the standard blurb that the retail stores were given at 11am on Friday, the phone then passed QA at 3pm on Friday and the stock was then released. Likely the retail stores weren't updated with the new info.

I got my phone Saturday morning and the ROM is rock solid.

I'd guess that they'll have the phones in stock on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Has anyone on here had any contact with MPD about delivery? I know they say 1st week in April but has anyone heard anything more specific?

/impatience

We're starting to get close to that promised time when the HTC Desire would finally be available, but it looks as though that there are supply issues that are preventing the device from being placed into the hands of UK customers. From the looks of it, a last minute release of a new ROM is causing the Android powered handset to be partly delayed and will require all units to be re-flashed before they are shipped off. Initially the handset was slated to go on sale by Monday March 29th, but now that date is looking more likely to be April 7th as it will take some time to get the new ROMs installed on all the units. Review units that were shipped out to bloggers and reviewers were re-flashed with the new ROM ahead of time before they were sent out while T-Mobile UK's version comes packed with their own ROM and was authorized by Google on an earlier date. Everyone else in the UK will still most likely have to wait before they get their hands on the HTC Desire – the desire for the smartphone is surely building slowly and steadily for those who've been waiting.

I assumed that the ROM would contain all the HTC Sense stuff and be authorised by HTC not Google.

The ROM will HAVE to be signed by HTC in order for the phone update to work as I understand it. The phone only flashes signed updates unless its rooted, and those will be built from the Google build by HTC to account for differing hardware, otherwise all phones would be on 2.1 by now :)

Im awaiting MPD too, I stuck with them as it was the best monthly deal (I am giving the sim to my father, I already have a very good T-Mobile contract with my G2)

On another note - Opera Mini is incredibly fast at browsing the internet on Android, it runs rings around any other device, and thats on the older, "slower" G2/Hero!

Operamini is fast on any phone. The server side compression technology they use is brilliant. It also eliminates any ads in pages from taking up much bandwidth.

Right, ok, just got into work and the official line here is that the Desire is infact NOT delayed on T-Mobile and all orders should arrive on time and stock should arrive in stores soon.

Even though it still says on our stock news ticker that it's delayed when it isn't :-/

Lovely stuff!

How can it be delayed when i have one in my hand from T-Mobile that came on Saturday.

It seems there have been many conflicting reports of ROM issues. It seems that T-mobile thought that it affected them, sent out a bulletin about it on thursday, then found out that actually it didn't affect them, and then didn't bother to update the bulletin that was sent out to stores (like I said, it still says it's delayed here).

So hopefully, even though they've told us there are still problems, all should be well :p
