*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Once unlocked it should stay unlocked - as long as you unlocked it when it was on the stock ROM.

Not true, at least on my Orange branded desire, I unlocked mine after I simlocked my phone when I updated the radio to allow the 2.2 rom's with 720p video to run, ive since updated the radio again and it didnt lock again?

Odd issue now with my desire (stock orange rom), with both mobile and wi-fi turned on and having a good connection, the desire uses the data connection, rather than the wi-fi. I know you can turn the data off, but it never used to do this, and wounder if there is a setting that needs changing somewhere.

I think that's what he means. To clarify, you only have to unlock once

Looks like I've finally worked out how to get decent battery life out of my Desire. Until now I've been lucky to get a whole day out of the thing, even with what I would consider to be light usage.

I've been unplugged since 7:45 and am currently at 89% (with half a dozen calls, 30 mins of browsing/installing apps, emails, etc.), I'd usually be down to about 70% at this time of day.

For those interested (I'm sure lots of you know these things already) this is what I have done (this is on DeFrost 2.3, can't comment on other ROMs).

  • Applied the 800mv HAVS kernel update to DeFrost
  • Created SetCPU profile to max and min CPU speed of 245MHz when screen is off
  • Enabled Juice Defender with default settings
  • Stopped Facebook and Twitter from auto-updating, I just use the apps now
  • News & Weather was constantly running, even after killing with a task manager, so went into Applications and Force Closed (think this was constantly trying to refresh even after turning off auto-refresh in settings)
  • Brightness is set to 30% except for when I'm outside

The battery life is not much better for me with 2.4a :(

I unplugged just after updating the ROM, did a Titanium restore and set up my widgets, and I am already on 88%. I am using the 800mV Kernel, so I thought it would have been a lot better!

OpenDesire is now using Linux kernel. My battery has been at 100 since 11am with two phone calls, a few txts and an app download using the three gees™

anyone know of a good screen protector for desire. that has matt finish with anti -fingerprint/grease coating and anti -glare.

im using zagg atm is annoying me

Any stock Android :p

i disagree, yes you can have it view those groups, but your contacts list will be ported from gmail, so if for example i email you a few times from my pc you will show if i search for an email addy on my phone, which when you use gmail a lot is bugging! i want to have a group in gmail called 'phone' and only peoples info who are in 'phone' sync to my phone. Nothing else

as it stands its all contacts or none. having groups is almost pointless in that respect

I'm considering a desire, it will be my first smart/touch phone so I have a few questions.

How does it compare to say an iPod for music? Assuming I get a decent size SD card for it.

Are those screen cover, protecting film things worth using? And if so does it make the touch screen less responsive? I'm just thinking of protecting it as much as I can as it's quite a pricy bit of kit.

I'm also wondering how much internet usage is enough when considering a pay monthly plan, orange are offering 500mb a month, but I'm not sure if that is much for a phone or not really. I know O2 are offering 'unlimited' data, but apparently that's just an offer lasting until the end of September, then it changes, and they also offer wifi hot spots, but I don't really know how much coverage they have and stuff. Any info on this and suggestions for any network would be helpful :).

I don't have a Desire...yet. ;) Currently on an HTC Magic. Regarding internet usage there are several apps you can download that will monitor your use of the internet allowances each month and I think some can warn you when you get to a certain number near the limit, so say a warning on 450MB to say that you've got 50MB left. I think that T-Mobile are considered the best network for internet allowances as they seem to be the most realistic about what smartphones can do and how quickly you can use up data.

You'll be advised to use a Wi-Fi network as much as you can so that you bypass the mobile network and don't use up as much of your monthly limit. :)

Thanks, I'll have a look at what T-Mobile offer, those apps sound helpful, and I'll be sure to use wifi as much as I can really.

I went from Defrost 2.1 to 2.3 yesterday and battery life has been very poor today, i think ill go to OpenDesire when he brings 2.2a out.
