*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

People are saying you need to use your Goldcard when updating if your handset is debranded.

Testing this theory now.
Bit late for me now! :(
Plus i thought that was the point in my debranding and unlocking it, so i DIDNT have to use the goldcard every time theres an update!

Yes, but they've just ripped out the new HBOOT.

If there's any bug fixes in the new HBOOT, then you won't get these! Some people reported better battery life with HBOOT 0.80 over 0.75.

If this new HBOOT improved battery, you won't see those benefits.

Of course this is just an example and the people claiming better battery for 0.80 could have been imagining it.

Is the new official ROM about anywhere?
Its obvious that this OTA has completely buggered up my phone, so it looks like im AGAIN going to have to reflash. Annoyed me this has. All the faffing to get it unbranded and unlocked so it acts like a Desire i got sim-free and it doesnt work like one!

Does no better with the goldcard in either.

Ok, update with my experiences ...

Initial state: My Desire came from Orange. I debranded it to a default 1.15 firmware as discussed earlier in the thread. I had tried previously to go to 1.21 but as I didn't have a goldcard in the phone at the time this screwed up my Wifi and I had to back out.

So today:
- for all this talk of Froyo I told the phone to check for updates, it was still reporting 1.21 though. My thought was then that it was not showing the new Froyo update as I was down level so I thought that I would try going to 1.21 again (this time with the goldcard).
- Switched in the goldcard and mobile internet wouldn't turn on for some reason. Wifi worked though so I downloaded the 1.21 update over that and applied it. Phone came back with Wifi still working. Note that the phone locked at this point. I had to enter a unlock code twice (which I had previously obtained) both for sim card and network.
- Then told the phone to check for updates again. This time it found the Froyo update. Installed OTA and so far the phone seems to be working fine, mobile internet and Wifi seem to be working as does the camera.

So my phone is running 2.2 quite happily now. The only (minor) issue I had was some how I managed to reset both my wallpaper and home screen layout back to defaults ... but that's just a couple on minutes to fix so not a problem.

Ive managed to get the phone to go back to a 2.1 RRU i had.
So gonna do a OTA again, this time with the goldcard in.

This is torturous :p

Someone please tell me what this is all about before I self harm.

Popped up during the RUU update from above.

Right so I switched my Orange image to a stock one. That's all I want out of it really.

To do this, I followed the steps at the bottom of the first link below (how to unroot your HTC Desire to stock), which included setting up a gold card, which is the second link below. The third link is the list of official, untouched images (I used RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865, apparently there's a problem with locked orange phones and you should use a 1.15 rom like this one and not a newer 1.21 or you'll lose the ability to make calls). It was really easy.

I have an orange branded desire.

I have followed this: http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/ and tried to install this: RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.

I get the 171 error and then if i try and reinstall it i get 131. Any ideas?

EDIT: Do i have to unroot the phone or does the install of the rom do this?

I managed to fix mine, but ive had to manually install all my rubbish all over again! :(

Anyone know of a good 'pure calender' replacement, as its no longer on the app market?

To go from Orange branded to Default unbranded personally I followed:

This to create the goldcard (as I found it a bit clearer)
Combined with Post 96 in this thread.

Note that I wasn't rooted before or after (process given does nothing root wise)
