*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

thanks very much, i'll read that now :)

Is it true that if I install OTA 2.2 without rooting, I can use underclocking programs, and Apps2SD?

Yes you can underclock with the OTA but the perflock isn't unlocked, so you have to apply the underclock after each boot up of the phone.

APS2SD, yes you'll be able to use the FroYo built in AP2SD but it's a poor way of doing it.

well.. have done the upgrade. it doesn't seem really very different to me at all, except having moved my programs "to sd" a few of them don't work and 1/3rd of the shortcuts on the home screens are now basically useless. not happy really :/

B@

Which ROM have you "upgraded" to?

From the sounds of things, you're using the stock FroYo AP2SD which does have problems. I.e. most applications can't officially be moved to the SDCard and you'll lose any widgets that are on the SDCard when you reboot the phone.

does anyone know how to view the amount of time you've been out of signal/service?
I saw this once on my phone but can't remember where.
I keep dropping service at work but want to see how bad it really is.

Thanks for the response. I take it it's still a far better option to root then?

The thing I don't understand now is the radio options, how do I know if I need to upgrade it, and if so to which radio? T-Mobile if it makes a difference?

You'll need to upgrade it as the 2.2 software needs Radio version 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 for everything to work.

You'll be fine with this radio, it's only Orange users that experience SIM locks when upgrading their Radio.

I think rooting is worth while, just for EXT3 AP2SD alone.

Yes, but it's a harder process as you have to downgrade the HBOOT as the one OTA flashes is unrootable for time being.

You're better off rooting and installing a 2.2 ROM via recovery.

Thanks, could I brick my desire if I do it wrong, or something goes wrong during the process?

Is underclocking when the screen goes blank a common thing for Desire users to do in an attempt to increase battery life?

Yes, you could brick the device but the root process with unrevoked is pretty safe unlike the original root process that did brick the usb on the phone, but even that has a fix now.

Only thing to be aware of is if your Desire has a SLCD screen, you'll need to tell unrevoked to use a recovery image compatible with SLCD (clock work mod recovery has a SLCD compatible version.

After you've rooted, you can just go into recovery and do a nandroid system image (it's basically like doing a ghost image of your Windows install on your PC), so if you ever have a bad flash, you can easily restore the back up.

The most dangerous thing is flashing the radio, just make sure you run it and let it do items thing until its finished.

so, what's peoples flavour of the month in roms then? 2.2, sense

i'm on neophytes 1.6 at the mo (tried 1.7 but had probs.)

i'm debating whether to try a random rom off xda, or pauls R8 off modaco

Just got USB tethering enabled under XP, this is good news!

It's supported in Win7 and Vista but not XP. Had to download easytether client for phone and PC then disable proxies and bingo... Happy man! :D

Orange users don't get sim locked if they flash the latest radio. I didn't and others haven't.

Got o2 looking into with supply chain to find out if they can find one with an amoled. And to update there website as they are clearly saying they still come with amoled. Pretty shoddy move on HTC's part though. :(
