*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

the epic backlight bleed from the top right corner especially on blacks. I watch allot of tv shows on it when im out and about etc. The box doesnt have amoled anywhere on it and it was made at the end of july. The hboot version aswell. All indicate its slcd and its not good at all. Its obviously user opinion but im not happy with it at all.

Once you have owned and used amoled daily for a while you instantly can tell how much better it is to an LCD phone.

does anyone know how to view the amount of time you've been out of signal/service?
I saw this once on my phone but can't remember where.
I keep dropping service at work but want to see how bad it really is.

Battery usage > cell standby

I'd swap my amoled for the slcd if they included anti glare on the glass... last week I almost set fire to my hair using it outside with the sun behind me :p

Which ROM have you "upgraded" to?

From the sounds of things, you're using the stock FroYo AP2SD which does have problems. I.e. most applications can't officially be moved to the SDCard and you'll lose any widgets that are on the SDCard when you reboot the phone.

ahh haa.. yes, it looks like that's the case... not with the stock froyo as i used Nextsense, but i did know what i was doing with the ext 2,3,4 business on the sd card and so i don't believe i've got apps2sd+ working and i'm just using the aps2sd in the Settings -> Applications -> Manage section of the phone. Is there an easy way around this?

despite this problem, with a little playing today, i think it is a bit smoother and snappier. i can't say much for the battery life atm as i'm always on it so its taking a bit of a battering. Just having a look at the flash stuff. also, the available memory on my handheld, i assume with this aps2sd thing there's still a fair bit of info stored on the phone, as it doesn't seem to take all of it off the device when you install to SD, is that right?

also, what's the best brower for viewing flash and things now? is the stock HTC one any good as i'm finding dolphin HD a bit of a pain in the proverbials

Just had my AMOLED Desire swapped as it was faulty. Now got an SLCD one. No real difference to me. The SLCD appears to be a bit crisper/sharper to my eyes.

Best method would be:

  • Since you have root, backup your settings with Titanium Backup
  • Backup your SDCard to your PC <-- Important, as your SDCard will be wiped when you partition later.
  • Download ROM manager from the Market
  • Go into ROM manager and partition the SDCard - SWAP: 0, EXT: 512.
  • Go into recovery, wipe data, wipe cache (don't worry, your backup will restore everything).
  • Flash NextSense.zip again
  • Reboot
  • Copy the SDCard backup you made in step 2 back onto your SDCard
  • Run Titanium Backup, it will reinstall your applications and their settings.

RE: Phone memory, yes some data needs to be kept on the phone but obviously the rate at which your internal storage will go down, will slow considerably.

oh christ, really? :/ Do you know whether there is likely to be a fix for aps2sd anytime soon?

Only reason i say is that when i run the restore of my backup (from MyBackup Pro) there's more programs installed on the SD than can physically fit in the phone memory so last time i had to install some, wait for it to run out of space, re-boot then move to sd and repeat. Is this still going to be an issue with Titanium backup or as they are now installed to SD will they go to aps2sd/aps2sd+ by default?

The Google AP2SD won't have a fix for a while, probably not until 3.0 - they probably won't even "fix" it, they're aware of the issue with widgets but released it anyway, so they probably see widgets having to be installed to the phones memory as a suitable solution.

In regards to your issue, when you have the EXT3 partition - old school AP2SD+ will be active and you won't have the issue of running out of space. It depends if MyBackupPro forces the application back to where it backed up from.

If it doesn't then most applications will go to install to internal memory, where a system link will divert them to the EXT3 partition. So your internal memory won't become full. That's essentially what a AP2SD via EXT partition is, a bit like a road divert to the SDCard but onto the EXT partition and not FAT (where Google's AP2SD applications are stored).

Can anyone help with an annoying problem is froyo 2.2. I notice that when I press the phone button, the list of contacts has the facebook contacts with numbers there as well as locally stored contacts. I use the facebook sync to get pics of some of my friends, but before on 2.1 there was the option to untick contact sync, now there is no option.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

so, what's peoples flavour of the month in roms then? 2.2, sense

i'm on neophytes 1.6 at the mo (tried 1.7 but had probs.)

i'm debating whether to try a random rom off xda, or pauls R8 off modaco

Latest Leedroid + Espresso theme, I was on Pinky for a few days until I got lost somewhere and discovered i couldn't get a GPS fix in any app, FAIL!

OpenDesire 3.1.2 here, with Launcher Pro. Installed LeeDroid 1.8c yesterday, seems pretty decent. I actually prefer some of the stock Android apps though, so will probably restore OD later.

Had a worrying problem on my other half's Desire, she sent a text to one of her friends and I was sent it instead! In the 'conversation' on her phone the text is listed under her friend and not me as well.

That could be very dodgy if for example you sent a sick joke to your boss!

I've had that also.

Strangely it was a text from my boss that when I replied went to my other half. Seems ok now though.
