And does autobrightness work?

I'll stick with Sense ROMs for the moment anyway though as the browser is better (mobile vie can be turned off)

Autobrightness works very well, I can actually see the screen in bright sunlight, and I haven't touched the settings.

Battery life - unplugged at 7am, now on 73%, with an hour or so of MP3's this morning, some facebooking and emailing, and mobile data has been on syncing emails and facebook all day. Not too bad, but would like some improvement - I've had better life, but thats using SetCPU to clock down to 500mhz most of the day.

I heard only newer handsets and the Android tablets will run 3.0 with Android splitting into two versions of it's OS. One for larger screens, and the one we have now.

afaik, anything capable of meeting the recommended specs should get. reality though, HTC won't want to release it for an old phone like the desire.

thank god for rooting and xda though

Unplugged at 5am and currently sitting at 82% I'm pretty happy with that after a few phone calls and texts. Wifi on all day with some browsing. Facebook and Gmail set to auto sync :)

I get the same with NextSense and SetCPU.... Much prefer NS to LD as it comes with none of the crap like Plurk added to it... I mean c'mon, only Eastern Asia and places like India use that damn program and you can install it manually but NOOOOO, the have to install it on the damn ROM and then you cant uninstall it unless you remove it from the ROM zip itself...

Can NextSense be downloaded with the default sense lock screen? I don't really like the look of the custom transparent lock screen he made.

The stock Android lock screen is there which is better than the Sense one and shows more info.

In recovery:

adb shell
mount /system
mv /system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk /system/app/HtcLockScreen.bak
exit

Which screen do you have because every desire i have seen with amoled screen you cant see nothing outside when it sunny i even returned a few thinking it was a fault but its the screen type.

I can also see perfectly fine in direct sunlight, something I have said over and over again since getting the Desire.

cant actually say ive had any problems with mine over any other handsets ive ever had and screen is going to be harder to see in sunlight regardless of what it is
