*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

This is why I said create custom groups instead of using the default ones, those you can choose what to sync and what not. This is how I've been doing it for ages and it just works.

I did also say it seems tedious but it's logical once you get your head round it.

ok here is a screen shot... i keep my contacts sorted well.

its my understanding that all off those 156 'My contacts' will sync, regardless of the sub groups you can see them in. I have not worked out a way just to sync purely 'jimmy' for example. near the bottom 'Other contacts' they will not sync. however there email/details will be available on the phone if i search, just not stored as a contact, which can be quite cluttered and i would love to be able to stop that!

Oh I see, so you're wanting to hide global search field for contacts that aren't in your "phone" contact listings - I've not seen a way to stop this on Sense ROMs but on a non Sense ROM I don't get non Android contacts showing up when searching, only when sending SMS but only when doing so via the default messenger and not apps like Handcent where I can simply begin typing a name and it searches only my chosen contact groups.

I've hit upon a strange problem with my Desire; I can't access hotmail.com via the stock browser! It's the same via 3G or Wifi and when I try to go to hotmail.com it redirects to sn101w.snt101.mail.live.com and I get an error page stating "There was an error while trying to do this. Please try again"

I've tried clearing my cache and resetting the web settings to no avail. Opera works fine but I prefer the stock browser. This is my second Desire after dropping my first in a canal in Yorkshire (don't ask, it was a Stag do!) and never had any problems with the first, or indeed with this one until recently.

Any thoughts?

i see, maybe i should try handcent, frustrates me that if i email someone it will then come up as search criteria on my phone. before i went and deleted all the 'other contacts' i had about 200 in there! i just keep it tidy but wish i could separate them, i raised it with google because im anal, but no reply :D

furthermore i would also love to create a group called 'mobile' and just have purely that group sync with my phone as it stands i have to have all 'My contacts' some of which i have no need to keep on my phone, but still wish to keep them as an active contact on gmail.

Have you tried setting up Hotmail in the email program? It's what I do now and saves opening the internet, going to hotmail and checking my emails. It will now check once an hour for new messages and let me know.

Weather widget is SnowStorm and the power control is switcherpro which you need to pay for but well worth it over stock :)

Do you have to turn on the location service to get Snowstorm working? I told it what town I am in to get weather, but the widget just says 'No forecast', and the notification is 'Error, couldn't get location'.

Guys, I have now got my Desire and it is brilliant. But I am having a problem with the stock YouTube application where a lot of videos wont play and I get an error along the lines of "This Video Cannot Be Played On Mobile" or something like that.

It happens on wifi, 3G and so on... Is this common?

A note on battery life. What are typical users getting out of their desire???

I'm having to recharge every day. Typically from 100% in the morning I'm down to about 50% by the time I leave work and 25% by the time I'm ready for bed.

I came from a Nokia that i had to recharge once a fortnight :p

I've got a nice docking station now so I use it as my desk clock while it's charging, but it would be really nice to get 2 days solid use out of it.

I've bought SetCPU and have set the profiles so that it is 999Mhz until 50%, then 768Mhz until 25% and then 499 until it fully discharges. It's at min when the screen is off. To be honest, set cpu has made very little difference to me overall. I've done the full battery then wipe battery stats thing but if anything that made battery life worse! :D

So what are your secrets for extending battery life on these things.....

^ Standard procedure I'm afraid. It's no different to using a laptop in some ways, so just think of it as one of those and maybe the battery life will be put into context. In fact most laptops I use are dire for battery life.
