*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

It downloads to the defrostsetup folder on the SD card, just open it from there, it's a zip file. Can be done in ASTRO or anything else too.

HAVS 998MHz in 4.9 DeFrost seems stable on mine now, battery should last longer too!

When I open it, it loads ROM manager.....

Ya big noob!

Open ASTRO, browse to defrostsetup, click the zip file, ???profit.

And then backup your SD card to the PC because if you're wiping /everything/ you'll wipe the SD card too (unless you just restore factor settings).

When restoring, only restore user apps+data, not system apps.

I'll switch to Cyanogen at some point and try that for a day or so but for now DeFrost is stable so will await v5 then nandroid that and try Cyan!

I have just ordered a Desire (hopefully should come with 2.2 out of the box) due to being sick to the back teeth of my HD2/Windows mobile being so slow when I want to sms and unlocking in my pocket and trying to log into facebook blah blah blah.

Is there anything highly recommended that I do straight away before transferring all my contacts etc?

(didnt want to risk going for the Desire HD, already delays reported and with the cpu being the same I didnt see much point)

could you not just install android on the HD2?

prefer to have something fully supported, (and also I can get back £150 or so once the desire gets here, I couldnt -without wasting a lot of time trying with andriod and then re-installing Win mobile to sell it back):)

I dont really have the time to faf around (even IF android works on the hd2)

What does unrevoked actually do?

A very easy way to transfer contacts from Winmo to Android is to just back them up via Gmail sync, then it automatically imports them all when you first sync up Android. It is how I transfer my contacts whenever I install new Android builds on my HD2

I know this is irrelevant since you have ordered the Desire already but just out of interest, did you ever try sticking a custom rom on your HD2 or visit a forum like XDA to resolve any of those? The problems you mentioned are all 'out of the box' issues that have long since been adressed - the HD2 on a decent custom rom is like a completely different phone. Even if you want to stay on the stock rom there are lots of SMS tweaks and alternatives and dozens of different lockscreens and options, though fair enough if you don't have the time or inclination to 'faf around' with such things then the HD2 is probably not the phone for you!

Very good point (and well made) - to be honest I had lost faith with the hardware also (in regards to losing signal quite frequently at home in central London) , but I may be upto tweaking my new phone out of the box now that its a well liked hardware/os combo to start with I can start with a fresh slate as it were.

If the signal doesnt improve then I will just go over to Vodafone or something (with an unlocked phone) and I therefore have a spare phone I can play around with but have as backup also. (and the money I get back from the HD2 should go most of the way for paying for the contract) :)

Ive had a really decent ISP email address ever since the beginning of adsl being available over here, so I havent really needed gmail until very recently. Thank you for the idea of syncing this way I will look into how to do this further, probably saved me a lot of time thanks again (does syncing include all previous sms from contacts etc or is this seperate?)

edit fyi for anyone who didnt know, it looks like mobile web version of gmail doesnt have contacts sync (or certainly isnt in same place as full IE gmail contacts sync) just trying to d/l gmail mobile app to see how this does it

edit - my bad I was trying to import contacts straight to gmail from the phone - what you actaully have to do is set up activesync on the mobile with gmail account details

Now just hve to try and work out how to save all the sms conversations before the new phone arrives

Yeah but The Desire is easily managed through Explorer itself, what extra does it do other than messaging?

I used to use it in the SE days but only because SE phones were not as easy to work with back then.

I just keep ending up back on the LeeDroid ROM. The Gallery not being 24bit just annoys me and none of the supposed fixes seem to work. I don't mind Sense although with the LeeDroid 2.1a update it does lag sometimes. I did try DeFrost again the other day which seems snappy, although iMobsters didn't work with my account. I don't play it much but I ain't starting that all over again! :D
