*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

I have to agree with Robbo the M8 is excellent and a very pleasant surprise. The build quality is superb and a step up from the M7 which as the majority of us know was plagued with problems.

I've had my M8 since Friday and I am really glad I bought it everything works as it should and it's just as fast as the N5.

The only issue and it's no biggie is that I'd like to use Nova Launcher but once installed the transparent notifications top and bottom don't work.

The camera isn't an issue either and the software is superb also not too sure on the battery life so far it's certainly better than the N5 but not the G2.

are you using nova beta? I think you need to sign up to the beta on their goole+ page to get the kitkat version?

did you enable transparency in the Nova options? Look and feel.

Yes Mate but it's not playing ball. Probably something to do with Sense UI.

Thanks anyway though.

@matt100 Tried the beta version as well and that's not working either.

It's getting rather annoying! Cheers for the tip.

What part of Android disappoints you?

I'll keep this fairly brief as I'm not at my computer (I can go into more detail at a later date).

I think the apps work better and are more fluid on the iPhone, as well as the general selection and quality being better. There are exceptions, but it depends what you use. Even the Google apps work better on iOS, which is just totally bizarre. App developers do tend to think iOS is better to program for, from what I've seen.

Then you have the App Store and iTunes behind it all, which I find to be better quality in general than the Play Store.

I can browse this forum faster and more easily on an iPhone 5 than with any browser on the M8 (tried Chrome and default). I like Safari and how it works.

I don't miss widgets so they aren't a big deal for me, I think you can operate and check things on iOS at a similar speed.

This is of course just my opinion, and Android does do some things better. However, on the balance of things, the iPhone just feels right, I just wish it had a bigger screen, which it hopefully will at the end of the year.

I'll do another post with some specific examples at the weekend if you're interested.

That aside though, the M8 is lovely, and if you like Android it's the top dog, no doubt.

I only ever used Android so I no any better. Just wanting to know what disspointed you tbh

Hmmmm.

Android uses Java (a very widely used language), whereas iOS/OS X use Objective C, a much less used language.

Java works with far more devices and is easier to learn, so I don't know where that comes from...

It's probably not the language, more the fact that you only need to program for one or two devices on iOS compared to the hundreds on Android.

I can't remember where I read it, but I've seen it a few places. I think the guy who owns TapBots (who make the much praised TweetBot) has said Android isn't good to program for. I'm no expert programmer though so can't say with absolute certainty.

Then you have the Twitter tokens problem on Android which is stupid, 100k limit?!

Hmmmm.

so I don't know where that comes from...

There's a widely held belief that apple customers spend more on apps where as android customers just want free stuff plus the massive range of android phones from £40 to £600+ handsets and iterations of android cause issues but whatever the cause the effect is undeniable.
