*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

That's the blockage I'm describing, it looks the same as here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BktPNy7CEAEm1cz.jpg

It seems strange that there appears to be a difference between the silver and grey models, however I'm not sure if it's just more visible against the darker bezel of the grey model.

Has anyone got the silver model?

It can't be dust, I've seen identical grilles on two/three different phones. It must be something behind the grille.

Well mine looked like that a second ago, just blasted some air on it and its cleared out so yeah, its dust.

How bad we talking? Mines been unplugged 1 day 2 hours 4 minutes and I've got 34% left.

It's a lot better than the M7 I replaced and the general consensus seems to be that the battery life is pretty impressive.

Having said that, the G2 does have a bigger battery.

We are talking quite bad...

Check this out...

Granted the G2 has a bigger battery but some sites reported the M8 outperforming the G2 by a small margin. I don't see how though....

Got to say am not really impressed with the battery life. Initially it was being compared to the G2 and some people were saying it was better. I strongly disagree the G2 is much better. I would say that I'm quite a heavy user and it would take a fair bit of effort to drain the battery on the G2 however I can easily kill the battery in the M8.

Having said that I must say I am impressed with the camera. I don't know why people are dissing it however I cannot get used to the weight and am in two minds of keeping the phone.

How much screen time you getting? am getting 4 to 5 hours screen time. Thats a lot for a phone.

Edit I see 1 hour 20min to take you down to 70% thats not all that bad tbh First thing I would do is disable wifi when not using it. Also I see you have 3G? 4G is better on the battery so having 3G can eat more battery.

I'm getting around the same however I got exactly that on my N5 so I'm particularly impressed seeing that the N5 has a smaller capacity battery.

I switch between WI-FI and 3G and it's always off when I'm not using it.

Like I said I'm not impressed at all...

Guess you was expecting to much coming from nexus 5 isn't really that much a jump in hardwar.
Me coming from a onex was a massive jump.

Don't. Unless you're out and about where you can't connect to WIFI (in which case the usage is negligible anyway), keep it enabled. Data signals suck way more power than WIFI, so if an app (weather update or something) wants data, it's best to let it use WIFI where at all possible.

Not normal. I would check what apps you have running in the background.

Right now, I am sat on 40 mins screen time, 90% battery used and i've been messing with the camera in that time.

This charge got me to 7hrs screen time in the end. Only thing I do is set power saver to disable data when the screen is off. I don't need that on all the time.

Thanks for the tips Mate. I always try and use WiFi as much I can if I have access to it.

As much as I Iike this phone I'm very disappointed with the battery life and I've contacted Rainforest and asked to return the phone to them.

That's my love affair with the M8 well and truly over.

@Arthur Hucksake Yep there definitely is something wrong with the phone. Am returning it for a refund.

Here's the latest stats...it shows Android Kernel eating up the majority of the battery.

Update: Defo a bad battery as it's dropping quicker than it's charging on my portable Anker battery charger.

Now the dilemma... do I get a replacement or go back and order a N5 again as for some reason I really miss using a N5.

Ah, Android OS. That's different.

Settings > Apps > All, then Force stop and then clear the cache (or perhaps all the data) for each of the following:
Google Play Services
Google Play Store
And I think the other is Google Services Framework

Then restart the phone. It can happen to any 4.4 device (I've had it on my Nexus 5).

Thanks Mate, think I'll let this pass. I've been in touch with Amazon and have arranged for a refund. In the meantime I've reordered a N5 and will use that until the One+1 phone materializes and if it's what I'm looking for I'll go with that.

Other than the battery issue I must say in my brief time with M8 I really enjoyed using it. It's a great phone with superb music playback via speakers and headphones and the camera is awesome.

4G Power consumption has come along way - comparable to WiFi now:

Fair enough mate, thanks for that. :)

Good to know really as I've started to see 4G a bit more now (on Three)

You're not happy with 4 hours battery screen on?!

No way...I get 4 hours with medium / heavy usage on the N5 and that's with a smaller battery and older chipset.

With the M8 you're supposed to get around 6-8 hours quite easily.

Update: After performing a factory reset the battery seems to be working as it should.
Am a happy bloke now...
