*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

That's brilliant Mate, am really glad that the battery is holding up well. I agree with you playback of music via headphones and speakers are second to none and one of the main reasons I want to get the M8 again.

Does the slim armour case protect the camera lens at the back when you put the phone down on a flat surface?

Yep, I'm trying to figure out why the stock music player has better processing than PowerAmp/Google Music at the moment but I guess its EQ related.

Yeah it does protect the camera lens, you'll have trouble trying to damage the lens that's for sure.

When I had the M8 I found that I preferred PowerAmp over the stock music player solely because it had better EQ options. No matter what you played Boomsound will kick in if it's enabled in the options.

That's good news about the case, does it make the phone more bulky? Should I ever get the M8 again then I would like a case that protects the phone.

So just out of curiosity, what's your recent list of phones?

Oh Mate where do I begin? lol This is kind of embarrassing but I guess admitting that I'm an addict is the first step to recovery eh? :p

Start of this year I've owned a Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 went on to get a SGS 4, Nexus 4, LG G2, Sony Xperia Z ultra, Nexus 5 32GB (white), Nexus 5 32GB (red) then back to the LG G2, the HTC M8 and currently back to Nexus 5 32GB (white)....and am currently eyeing up the OneplusOne phone or possibly trying out the M8 again but buying it from a different retailer in the hope that no I actually get a phone with no defects.

I have a major problem...:o and my family think I'm nuts....lol

You must loose quite a lot on each one, no?

I guess so but that's the price you pay when your need to have the latest and greatest just grips you like a vice and won't let you go.

Haha to the number...funny though...it says all lines are currently busy. Do you reckon members from this forum are on the hotline currently confessing their addiction?

I bought one as an upgrade for my M7... seems a decent phone so far and battery life is a marked improvement. Happy days.

How long do you tend to keep each one?

Because if you get them from Amazon, you have 30 days to return them (that's what I do).

Depends, the Nexus 5 has lasted the longest, usually tend to keep phones for around 3 months. I've done exactly what you've mentioned and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Mega all went back to Amazon within 30 days.

It's extremely naughty...but hey if the returns policy enables us to do so, why not take advantage eh?

So do you reckon you'll hang onto the M8 for long? Have you bought that via Amazon? If so be careful as I tried 3 handsets from there and all three had some manufacturing defect.

That's impresive!

I thought I was bad going from the S3 to the S4, and then the N5, with the urge to move already, I don't feel quite as bad now though.

But... If you have the money, then why not spend it on what you like!? It's your money, so you may as well have some fun with it.

I don't really see it like that, tbh. If you return it within 7 days, the retailer legally has to take it back, so I don't see an issue with returning it within that time.

Within 30 days, meh. Don't have the policy if you don't want people to use it.

The thing I love about Amazon is that if you have an issue within the first year, just chat with them and they'll get a replacement sent out or refund you. How's that for service :).

Don't know tbh. I bought it on a bit of whim tbh and I suspect I'll hate the camera, but we'll see.

My dream phone right now is the Z2, but that's MIA.

The other phone I'll probably take a look at is the OnePlus One - looks amazing and supposedly ~£300!

I can understand why you'd send them off to a recycler: convenience (right?). But I don't think I can stomach loosing +£200 on a phone, when I could probably sell it here and loose a lot less. eBay take so much nowadays that it's hardly worth going there anymore.

Cheers Mate and very kind of you to say so. We all have urges to move to different phones some succumb to these urges more than others and there's so many great phones coming out these days, it would be rude not to try another phone.

It's a hobby or sorts I guess, that's why we're all on here. Why not have some fun in the process, funny though thankfully this sort of behaviour does not spill into my life when it comes to my love life! haha

How are you finding the N5? There's something quite sterile about the phone, I can't quite put my finger on it. That's why I find the M8 so tempting as it has a certain character to it.

My family think I'm crazy too.

Here's my history:

Had the iPhone 4S for two years, upgraded to the 5S - had three faulty ones so switched to Android - got a Note 3. Had four of them, all with issues, so gave up. Got the LG G2, didn't like it, so returned it. Got the Nexus 5, had three of them for build quality issues, gave up. Got the Xperia Z1 - didn't like the terrible screen. Tried the Note 3 again a few months on and it also had issues, but I kept it as I had nothing else to use. Currently have the Moto X and have just ordered the HTC One (M8).

I've got serious issues! One: I return too many phones. Two: I'm probably too fussy, which contributes to no. one.

It feels good to get that out :p.

True, I see your point. DSR comes in handy and I've had to use it a couple times when I've changed my mind or have had an emergency and have had to return a phone just to get the funds back into my account.

Yes why have a 30 day policy if people don't use it? We'll take advantage of it just because we're quite curious about phones and would like to try them out. The last thing you want to do is spend £400+ on a phone and end up hating it, as it's quite a lot of money and you want to be happy with your purchase.

I got to give it to Amazon for their customer service and no one can beat them, at one point I had 3 M8 phones sitting at home and Amazon didn't even bat an eyelid when I asked for a replacement due to my original M8 having a defective battery.

Mate you won't hate the camera, all the reports of it under performing are exaggerated granted it's a little hit and miss but with all the editing facilities available to you on the phone and the quick focus and capture are really impressive. Plus the purple tinge that plagued the HTC One have now gone.

The Z2 intrigued me as well but the size and ergonomics put me off as I tried my friends Z1 and it felt uncomfortable to hold, but Sony have stepped up in regards to the update to the Z1 and it is tempting I have to agree.

Are you not getting the Z2 due to it being delayed?

I'm 100% intrigued by the OneplusOne and what it brings to the table and the price it's supposed to sell I'm looking to get that for sure. Not long until they announce it...

Z2's on pre-order from Amazon also, but they don't charge until its shipped so it's more like saving my place in the queue if you get my drift :).

The OnePlus One looks amazing. Have you signed up to their forum? It's a really active community over there and the company is listening to the members all the time and posting lots of updates. I'm over there: same name as here :).

Won't be available from Amazon though so we won't be able to return it :p.

I'm just as bad but in a slightly different way :S, over the past year I have bought two htc One M7's in black and silver, a galaxy s4 which i hate, an iphone 5s and now the M8, I keep telling myself that I should sell some of them but haven't got around to it yet.

It does doesn't it? You feel better for it! lol

My heart's always in my mouth when I order a new phone, as my luck is on par with yours when it comes to getting faulty phones but again like you it's also partly down to being fussy. I loathe paying mega cash for a phone for it to have some kind of defect and it doesn't help that I am kind of OCD and will look for defects when I get a new phone.

I understand where you're coming from re the Nexus 5 build quality, you only have to look at the RMA thread over at XDA and it's filled with horror stories, I've never seen anything like it.

The Moto X is a good phone, shame about the low storage, so I swerved it.

Take for example the first M8 I got, nothing wrong with it cosmetically, everything was cool but it had a faulty battery. So I exchanged it and the replacement had scuff marks all at the bottom. The third one arrives, however as my first one had a rock solid volume rocker, this one had a very loose volume rocker and it was like it was going to fall off any minute it was so loose. Had I not had experience with my first M8 I would've been none the wiser and would've kept it, but my OCD and fussiness got the better of me and I sent it back.

Good move re pre ordering the Z2 via Amazon, I've done that a few times just to save my place in the queue. Even more of a bonus that they don't charge until it actually ships, unlike some companies who pre authorise your card which is as good as taking your money.

I've scanned the OneplusOne forums but not actually signed up but plan to, will look out for you over there.

I don't know about you but I think the OneplusOne phone will be the sleeper hit of 2014, the bonus being like you've already mentioned that the company are listening to feedback. The best thing about the phone is that the company are planning to produce different types of backs of phone made out of different materials kind of like the Moto Maker customisation but to a lesser degree which will really set the phone out from looking generic and boring.

As long as it lives up to the hype I will be buying one for sure.

Mate we're both in the same boat....I suffer from exactly the same issues as you and the sooner we get help for our problems the better! lol

I'm not expecting "amazing". I'm expecting a Nexus 5 challenger in that it will be a good, fast phone at a great price. I'm not expecting front-facing stereo speakers*, an especially compact design (lots of bezel) or a stunning camera.

* come on manufacturers - it's a full year since the M7 (re)introduced them - get the bloody things on your phones (one thing the Z2 does, though they're apparently average compared to the M7/M8 ones)

They've already confirmed that it will have stereo speakers :).

Tbh, I wouldn't say we're fussy, just careful :p.

Think of it this way: if you bought a brand new house, you would check it carefully (you'd probably get somebody else to check it to be certain). If you found that it had cracks in the wall, wouldn't that annoy you?

I just find it amazing that some things get through quality control. Take one of my Nexus 5s for instance: it had a wonky SIM-slot. How could you miss that?!?

P.S: I check insanely carefully too. A single scratch that's only viewable if you see it in the light? Yep, that's going back :p.
