***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

I've fixed the text messaging problem now by deleting my largest message thread. Ok, it was pretty huge - at over 3000 messages - but thats not the point because the previous version of Android/Sense handled it perfectly without a hint of slowdown, unlike my previous Desire.

So I'll move on to the update itself. Dissappointment is my summary, really. Some of it is nice, some of it isn't and some of it is downright boneheaded. I'd say almost all, if not all, of my criticisms relate to Sense 3.6 rather than ICS.

Some of the dislikes:

a) Messaging client. It now doesnt tell you how many text messages are in a thread. Why not? Why remove this functionality?

b) Weather client. It now only shows weather 4 days in advance not 5. They've also randomly changed the order of the settings at the top. Again, why? What purpose has this served?

c) Quick Settings. GPS on/off has been replaced by Airplane Mode. Why?

d) New font. Looks plain and horrible, the previous default font was nice. Why change it? Why not offer us a choice?

e) Browser. Seems to handle pages much differently now. Doesn't seem to be as simple and easy as before and pixelates the entire page until its loaded in full. Menu button brings up enormous list rather than simple tiles at the base of the screen as before.

So, a real shame. Kinda wish I hadn't bothered and now obviously I have no choice but to put up with it. Almost every change in Sense 3.6 appears to be change for change sake and serves no real purpose.

Oh, and worryingly I am now down to less than half battery life despite only being off charge for 3.5 hours. I'm hoping this is because the update process itself and the subsequent text issues have sucked a load of power, rather than because the new version eats battery.

Im with Fox on pretty much everything since getting ICS. I don't use the stock browser so haven't noticed issues with that, but overall Sense 3.6 just feels like they have fiddled with it because they felt that had to, rather than because it needed the tweaks.

I'm sure ICS underneath is performing perfectly well, but the Sense UI is just ruining it. Its a shame, because in the early days of Android I would climb over hot coals to get a SenseUI phone.

Oh, and the requirement to use an unlock gesture or pin if you setup a VPN is just stupid. It says its due to credential storing, but you can turn off saved credentials on the VPN and it still won't let you do without a gesture or pin. Simply having a VPN setup forces it. Why?

Shame.

Its annoying because Vanilla Android used to be terrible and Sense was amazing. But having played with a Nexus I think in 4.0 Vanilla Android has overtaken Sense.

This is my Sensation running Virtuous Inquisition at 1.7ghz.

The speed has not been altered in any way. You may want to enlarge the screen as it's in portrait mode. Tried to capture the responsiveness of it. Not sure how it compares to Sense as I've not used it in ages.

you see some jumps due to the frame drops of the capturing software.

How do the Senseless Roms compare on battery life? I've been running ARHD for the last couple of months and fairly happy with battery life but since I don't actually use anything from Sense, could I benefit more from running a Senseless Rom?

Wonder if HTC will sort out all the bugs that come with this ICS update, or they just brush it under the carpet and forget about us while the One series are now out.
