***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Checking out 1080p samples on Youtube now, either the early preview that we were shown a while back was configured differently to retail or something is wrong here. The metering looks no better than the DHD (in that it doesn't fade smoothly in and out of +/- EV) where metering is choppy and there's also the occasional stutter.

Is this possibly because the DHD ships with a slower SD card than acceptable for 1080p? Obviously this might be the case since internal memory isn't large enough for camera storage.

Hmm, like I said in another comment thread on one of the videos, I would have hoped HTC would have sorted this out by now as it's been going on for 24+ months with other handsets too!

Bah, still debating between this and SG2 ... ;(

I went Monday with my wife to the Vodaphone shop to see both side by side. The SGS2 is definitely slightly quicker and the screen is brighter although not quite as refined. Couldn't get over the design of SGS2 though (seems like a Chinese iphone 4 ripoff IMO), the Sensation felt better quality in the hand and like it will last longer. Sense was great so the conclusion was we will wait until O2 has the Sensation then upgrade. We know its not quite as great spec but its still a really good device with not much between the two.

A chinese iPhone 4 ripoff? I don't see how other than the colour. That is just nonsense. I have iPhone 4's and they are nothing alike.

Testing them in the shop doesn't also accurately compare the battery and the camera features either, which both fall down when compared to the SGS2.

I was talking about design not the function of the phone. I thought apple went backwards with the iphone 4 becoming so flat and square, the SGS2 is like that. It didn't feel bad quality just not very nice, the HTC felt like the better device and looks better IMO.

I think that ergonomically the iPhone 4 was a step backwards but it feels very high quality. I always thought it was the most premium feeling phone but to be honest the Galaxy S II is rock solid, its just light, I actually like it more.

Can anyone comment on what the battery life is like so far if they have one?

I haven't tested this properly myself, but apparently its similar to the Desire HD :(

Oh dear, that's not what I wanted to hear. My iPhone 3G lasts a good couple of days and I don't really fancy putting up with less than that :(

I've always found TechRadar to be relatively fair, and this is what they said -

The HTC Desire was fine for us when it came to lasting a day, but others found it would be dead by 7PM. The Desire HD was more universally panned for a poor battery, but still some chastised our verdict of it being unacceptable.

Well, it's going to happen again with the HTC Sensation, as the battery life, to us, seems woeful and not up to scratch. We're talking dead by 8PM with no push email, minimal Wi-Fi and about 30 mins of music and video at the most.

We've cycled it a few times to see if it can be improved, but the same things happens: it holds charge averagely well mostly, but then will get very warm and discharge at a rate of 10% per hour... which is a familiar scenario with the Desire HD.

We constantly kept the applications killed and the notifications to a minimum - but it seems only turning off the background synchronisation altogether helped the issue. And don't even think about hammering the camera in the middle of the day, or you'll be without a phone come the evening for sure.

It could have been faulty, but its the same sort of behaviour the Desire HD had, other places report similar things.

I'm not so sure they didn't have a faulty unit as some owners have reported getting quite good battery life after tinkering with settings. Not in the same region as the SGS2 but certainly a lot better than the review suggests. As it releases to other networks we will get more real world opinions.

Thanks Robbo. Thinking of getting one on O2 when they come out, but the battery life is my main concern at the moment. Unfortunately it's not something that I can really test in a shop.

Hopefully someone I know will get one and then I can get some first hand experience.
