***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

That sucks Marc, bloody chimps!
Yep. I was pretty livid before I found out that the phone itself wasn't damaged, just the cover. I didn't feel confident persuading Vodafone to give me a new model as a replacement. :D Now that it's the cover I feel more confident Vodafone will offer me a replacement. I have to say that the member of the Vodafone Twitter team was very quick to respond to my tweet and promised they'd be in touch soon. I would have thought that Vodafone would have ample spares for repairs if needed. :)

This is interesting. It seems there are two different screen manufacturers for the HTC Sensation LCD panel.

One is Sharp and the other is AUO. It seems the Sharp panel has better image quality but worse viewing angles, and the AUO panel has decent viewing angles but a more grainy and inferior image.

To find out what type of screen you have, download Terminal Emulator from the Android Market, restart your phone (so it has less processes running, etc) load up Terminal Emulator and type - dmesg

Then look for something similar to -

<6>[ 9178.895111] Panel Type = PANEL_ID_PYD_ ??????

???? = Sharp/AUO

The easiest thing to do is get the results up, press the menu button, email it to yourself and search on the computer/email client :p

Mine is a Sharp panel and as I've said already, other than the viewing angles I'm very impressed with it. The majority seem to be Sharp panels so far over at XDA.

Both the phones we have include "<6>[ 3.277129] mipi_novatek_panel_type_detect: panel_type=PANEL_ID_PYD_AUO_NT" there is no text the same as you quoted on mine Robbo.

Just read through most of that thread on XDA and seems some AUO screens have scan line issues on plain wallpapers. Ive been trying to see them on these and cant really fault the screens, they dont wash out the same as the pictures at extreme angles either. Maybe there are a couple of different AUO screens. Cant comment on the sharpness really as I haven't got a sharp to compare but I'm very happy with these screens.

Should be able to search easier by running:

dmesg | grep PANEL_ID

That should return any lines that include the string PANEL_ID but nothing else, hence no need to restart the phone or email the output to yourself...

Yeah it won't be exactly the same, seems you have an AUO screen then!

Aha, useful :)

I must admit I was impressed with Dandle's screen today when looking, the resolution is excellent. The phone seemed very snappy too. I'm really going to miss Sense when I retire my Desire for an SGS2 next week.

Yeah, I think it's fairly snappy as well. It isn't quite so snappy when side by side with the SGS2 but it isn't exactly 'slow' as some people would have you believe :o

Have any of the other Sensation owners bought a skin or similar for their phone? I've been very good at keeping my Sensation in a pocket to itself so it won't get scratched but I'd still like some kind of skin to keep it safe from getting dropped if the worse should happen!

I haven't bothered personally as the design is one of the things I like about it, even though I don't take it anywhere at the moment as I'm using the SGS2 :p

Good selection here though - http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/cat/Sensation-Cases.htm
Haha. :) A mate of mine from work has the new Desire S and he's got some blue gel skin for his. I thought I'd have a look at what there is for the Sensation. If there's nothing I fancy that wouldn't add lots of thickness to the phone I won't bother.

Does anyone know how many charge cycles it takes before the battery is at its best?

Its seems dismal so far. Charged it last night at 6pm and it died today at 11am. That was with 15 minutes of Copilot, about 10 photo's, couple of texts and checked e-mails a few times. Not much else. No Internet browsing no wifi on.

Does that seem poor to you guys?

Seems to drop quite allot when just in standby. I have Friend Stream on every 4 hours and e-mail on manual sync.

Just hoping its just because its only had 2 full charge cycles!!

that seems pretty poor. After my first charge, it lasted from 7am to 2pm the next day and it was only down to 30%. Maybe there's a dodgy set of batteries or it needs a few more charges?

Mine lasts all day even when I've been using it most of the day. It won't last two days though with my usage.

Thats what I expected, I don't mind it only lasting a day If I have given it some hammer, but for it to die on me without using it much Is not good. I hope its a bad battery and HTC give me another!

Will give it a few more charge cylces and if it don't get any better I will have to contact HTC. Just hope I don't have to send the whole phone back!

Mine is quite a lot better than that, make sure you don't have lots of stuff constantly syncing and do a few more cycles.

It should easily last 24 hours of fairly heavy use (assuming you are asleep for 8-12 of those hours).

i always kill apps with task manager and its only updating weather and friend stream, should be able to handle that.

Don't keep killing apps, you don't need to.

You should only use the task manager if you need to kill an app because it crashed or is doing something strange.

Friend Stream, it depends how often it is updating, if you've got FB and Twitter on 15 minute syncs (or whatever the default is) that will put a dent in your battery life.

why shouldn't i kill apps, surly the more running in the background the more battery will be used. i kill them cos it always seem to have less than 100mb free too.

friend stream is 4 hours atm, facebook & twitter.
