***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Robbo, load OcUK forums on your Sensation and scroll. Is it clear or blurry?

What sort of screen does your Sensation have? Seems there are two - AUO and Sharp. The Sharp being the superior screen.

Guess which one I have...

There shoudn't be this sort of lottery when buying high end hardware.

It seems pretty clear and crisp to me, I suppose there is a little bit of blur when scrolling, but I certainly wouldn't say it's an issue.

My screen is a Sharp.

I agree although the way I read it the neither screen is better really they both have good and bad points.

My brothers sensation is being swapped tomorrow, the camera has developed lines across the screen.

The Sharp screen produces a better quality image, and the AUO one has slightly better viewing angles, but the viewing angles are rubbish on both so it's quite a minor plus.

How do you stop it displaying text messages on the look screen? My Desire used to do this but it only showed you about 3 words right at the bottom. This displays pretty much the entire text on the lock screen! Not great from a security perspective really.

Leegnd :D

What about getting a black background behind icon text as per previous versions of Sense? Then I can read the text on white backgrounds :p

From what Ive been reading on xda people that have had both seem to prefer the AUO screen if they get a good one. Seems theres a few bad AUOs though.

Download Terminal Emulator from the Android Market, restart your phone (so it has less processes running, etc) load up Terminal Emulator and type – dmesg

You will be met with a rather large wall of text to search through, but fear not. The easiest thing to do is get the results up, press the menu button, email it to yourself and search on the computer/email client.

Look for something similar to -

<6>[ 9178.895111] Panel Type = PANEL_ID_PYD_ ??????

???? = Sharp/AUO

Anyone know how I can remove the quick app links from the notification popup, or will that have to be done with a custom rom / mod once the phone is rooted / unlocked ?

And I'm struggling to find a Sensation pouch in my local shops & was hoping a HD2 pouch would fit, as they are very similar in size. Does anyone happen to use one with their Sensation ?

So I've had the Sensation for about 5 days now - including a weekend away and thought you might be interested in my latest thoughts.

I'll start with the screen. Coming from my Desire its clear the screen initially dissapointed me. The viewing angle wasn't as good, the colours not quite as vibrant. Infact I considered sending the entire thing back and sticking with the Desire. But no, I decided to stay with it and see how it went - and I'd send it back after a week.

With the Desire having been powered off for 5 days now the memories of the direct comparison between the two have faded and, actually, in isolation, the screen is 'fine'. Yes, 'fine'. I'm not going to say its outstanding because we know its not, and the screen on the Galaxy S 2 is undoubtedly better.

But the key point here is once you get out of phone-review mode where you are comparing everything to everything out and get into phone-user mode most of the screen criticisms, however valid, quickly become quite irrelevent.

The qHD display is actually very nice for web browsing - superior to the lower resolution screen on the desire - and in general use the screen is clear, crisp and pleasing to use.

Much like the rest of the phone really. I have experienced no lag and no slowdown. Everything is perfectly snappy and speedy - more so than the Desire despite Sense 3.0 being apparently 'bloatware'. From a pure user perspective I'm actually really beginning to love the Sensation - the larger screen is a joy to use for texting etc.

I particularly love the look and feel of the device. It's nicely weighted, its solid to hold, it looks great and it feels like a premium class device.

Overall I'm very happy with it and shall be keeping it.

It could, however, have been the undisputed champion of all Smartphones had it been fitted with an AMOLED screen. As it is, Samsung Galaxy S 2 v Sensation will remain a bitterly fought fanboy contest neither side can really win.

For me, all the other plus points of the Sensation make me convinced it's the better phone than the Galaxy S 2 despite the screen. Thats the thing about phones - its personal opinion.

There are a lot more good points about the gs2 than just the screen e.g.

- supports more codecs out of the box
- better battery life
- more durable and IMO better build quality
- much better camera/video recording
- faster/smoother
- more RAM and internal storage etc.

Etc.

@Tim

Iirc, the reason he went for the sensation was due to sense and the mobile feeling heavier therefore it feels like a "premium device".
