***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

I'm interested in why you didn't just get a SGS2 Fox, was it Sense that made you go HTC?

I hated the look and feel of the SGS2. It just felt horrible to hold and I didnt like the look of it. I'm also a huge fan of the Sense interface and would really have missed that by moving to the SGS2.

I'm well aware that its a great handset - but it wasn't for me. It reminded me of a fully loaded Toyota Avensis. Sure, its got everything, it wont ever break and the spec is fabulous but it just feels cheap.

So far the only downside of the Sensation versus the GS2 that I've encountered is the screen. Everything else appears to be a non-issue in daily use. Battery is the same as the Desire, which I was used to. I couldn't care less about HD Video recording - its a phone, what exactly do I want to HD video anyway - and everything I've asked it to do thus far it has done lightning quick.

I'll see how its doing for speed once i've filled it with crap in a months time, mind :D

Wrong. Its a smartphone - it should be able to do as much as possible. Great quality video recording will appeal to more people than web browsing on a phone.

Your its a phone comment - why do care about the high res then and web browsing.

That's pretty much exactly what I thought when I used it. On paper it's pretty much dead in the water if directly compared to the SGS2, but there is a certain 'charm' about it that actually stops it being a failure. I'm not really sure what it is - but it's there.

I still think that charm doesn't do nearly enough to justify it over the Galaxy S II, depending on what features you use on the phone. If you rarely use the camera, HD video recording and other GS2 superior features, then yeah, there isn't much in it.

You simply cannot argue the Sensation is better though, it really isn't, but it isn't bad either.

I simply don't understand why you say things like "its a phone, who cares about HD video recording", well, a lot of people do actually? Nearly everyone I know with a modern smartphone uses the camera and video recording an awful lot more than you would think. It's an extremely useful and important feature.

I actually needed the HD recording facility just this week. Was making a leaving video over the course of that week for a member of staff but on that day all of our departments cameras were being used for a multicam project. Whipped out my phone, filmed a few people and chucked them in with the rest of the footage.

It actually didn't fare anywhere near as badly as i'd expect against the £1.4k HD miniDV camera footage. I expected it to be utter garbage in comparison, but all it needed was some contrast tweaking and some messing around with the EQ to get rid of some background hiss and your average person wouldn't notice the difference once it was all rendered out.

I always use it for random short videos with friends etc, i just didn't realize it actually is good enough to replace a 'proper' video camera in many situations.

Remind me again why I should care about the needs of others when choosing a phone for myself?

I almost never record video on my phone and therefore do not care how good it is at that.

Stop using the 'it's a phone' argument and instead say what you've said here and people will quickly stop bugging you about it. :)

As the above have said, it's not a 'phone', it's a smartphone and for many people video recording is a key feature of smartphones. Obviously there's a large number of people who couldn't care less too, you being one of them.

Everybody defends their phone choice, even if it was the wrong one. :p

Look at my first posts when I got the phone - I don't do purchase justification. If something is crap, I call it as such.

I was asked a direct question about why I didnt buy a Samsung Galaxy S2, along with a list of reasons which I felt didnt apply to me, and therefore answered that question.

I find the Martin Fields Screen protectors are normally the best...But there not cheap..

Not for the Sensation. They don't stick at the edges due to the curved screen. I've also tried a cheap one that came with a case - that was the same. The best so far has been the Zagg one but I messed up putting that one on so it looked a mess. It's more flexible though so it sticks better at the edges. It's slightly thicker so offers good protection but I did notice some loss of touch sensivity with the screen.

Thanks for this guys :)

I have some cheap ones from eBay and I noticed a bit of sensitivity loss as well. Maybe I'll give the Zagg ones a shot.

I keep being told I don't need screen protectors with this new gorilla glass, but I hear some people have managed to scratch it, and I'm a bit paranoid... :p

You can scratch it, but not easily. I've never used a screen protector and never scratched a screen to this day, gorilla glass or not.

I look after my phones but not to a silly extent.

None of those look particularly nice though.

The Zenis one for the GSII should work perfectly fine though I reckon. Remove the insert and the Sensation should fit in.

Cheers Robbo. That site doesn't always load for me. Didn't I see a thread here a few days/weeks back about someone's negative experiences with them?

The GSII has its charging/USB point on the bottom of the phone? The Sensation has its on the side. Weird placement of it I admit and probably my least favourite thing about the Sensation but I need a stand that allows the Sensation to lie down as it were. :p
