***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

1. It's pull, you set the schedule and it'll go and download mail from your account

2. Yes

3. The default client on the desire is text only. Not sure about sensation

4. Don't have the phone, so can't say :)

Thankyou kind Sir :)

Are all email accounts on Android 'pull' or is GMail 'push'?

1. I don't use Hotmail but my work Exchange email is push. It's quite nice getting replies from my colleagues to emails I sent the day before when I'm on the train in the morning. It's even better seeing that colleague and before they say I've replied I can tell them I've replied to their reply. :D:cool:

2. I only have one Exchange account on my Sensation but I've seen nothing to suggest I couldn't have another on there.

3. Dunno. I'm too cool, hip and trendy to use Hotmail. I'm a Gmail sort of guy. ;)

4. Probably yes. I half got the Sensation as an anti-hero to the Galaxy S2. I like the design and Sense, but I'd probably be a bit more impartial now if I had to choose again. :)

If your using the default mail client its pull for exchange as well - look at your download schedule under send/receive. However, I found it to be a good thing as I could change the schedule to pull email less frequently over weekends and save on battery life.

GMail isn't push either but the implementation is very good - my phone often alerts me to new mails before the web client.

I've just checked and between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, my work email is set to be pushed. These are the "peak hours". Outside of these times, it's every hour. :) Just changed that last one to manual. Between 5pm and 8am Mon-Fri I'm at home and I use Outlook for work emails then. Same at the weekend.

I don't care about how often Gmail syncs at work. I just use it to make me aware of emails that I can have a quick look at on the phone if I want.

Probably been asked before, but this is a massive thread...

What cases are people using for their Sensations? I want something as small/slim as possible, so more of the clip on plastic ones than the gel style, but there are literally hundreds available and 99% are likely pants.

Latest firmware has introduced a hugely annoying bug.

A new feature allows you to take screenshots but it seems buggy in that often for no reason at all the Home key will turn into a Screenshot key following no extra input from me and refuse to do anything but take repeated screenshots until I double tap power.

Grrr.

I've experienced this, annoying as hell! :(

Its really is worth using a custom rom. You can have all the great features of Sense with the bugs fixed and many more nice features added.

Which ROM would you recommend and got any links to how to do this? :)

You need to turn security off on your phone and root it. Which can be done by following this thread. Its seems a bit mind boggling at first but really isn't, just follow the thread step by step. Once thats done you can boot into recovery which is what you have installed and back up your current rom as is (for you to revert back to later if you wish and as a back up incase you custom rom doesn't load correctly).

Then after that there are loads of different roms to choose from depending what you want. I really like sense and have only tried sense based roms. The one I have stuck with is Bulletproof here. It has all the extra junk from sense removed with some really nice usefull tweaks added. The dev hasnt just added every request people have made like some roms just usefull ones with the option to add other stuff if you want.

On top of roms you also get the option to update the radio which brings the radio data up to the newest version rather than what was last included in the phones last update. Kernals can also be updated, the kernal is basically how the phone works with the rom being the operating system installed over the top. Kernals have many tweaks incorporated and can greatly increase the speed the phone works at.

Hope that helps a bit.

Forgot to add buy a program called my backup pro. Then you can backup all you messages, contacts, calender etc and just restore it all back to you freshly installed rom. Don't back up apps or system data though as apps don't always work when restoring and system data will be different on your new rom.

Cheers Dandle. I had one of the HTC Magic's prior to the Sensation so I've got some experience of rooting. I've just not got around to it on this phone yet. Maybe something for the weekend. :)

Dang, me Sensation is dead!

Powered off last night, won't power back on. Won't charge. Tried batteries out of two others, no joy.

Orange delivering a new one tomorrow. Old one's going back with InsertCoin installed.

Should be alright, seeing as it's totally dead to the world. I hope, lol

If you plug it into your computer via USB, does it ask you for a driver that can't be found? QC USB or something like that? If so they've got no chance of seeing what's on the phone as the chipset is goosed!
Mine did that after an o2 pushed update last week.

PC doesn't see a device at all. Doesn't even play the device connected sound. Can't power on at all.

Although I did laugh at the woman on the end of the phone trying ti diagnose the issue. Asking me to switch it on, LOL! Yeah, I've been trying love!

How can you take pics of the screen on this thing? I thought it was the power button + home but all that gives me is a weird little quick menu thing with 8 things on it.

Would it not even boot into recovery?
