***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

Loads of people are getting it - there are youtube videos of it as well. I get it multiple times a day.

I had this problem constantly as well, I had a small update a few weeks ago to download, and it hasn't done it since ! :)

Right Ive finished my trial period with ArHD and switched back to Bulletproof. Even with the bricked kernal ArHD battery drain was a fair bit higher than I am used to. Also I noticed that the radio isnt as good with ArHD (both roms using 9035, Bulletproof requires the rils loading though). I work in an office inside a hanger so a bit like a Faraday cage with the reception i get. The last couple of days I have had no data reception at all and although the phone would ring it was impossible to hold a call on it without leaving the office. Old rom back on last night and I now have data (switching between H and 3g) and limited reception but enough to hold a call.

I'm thinking of selling my HTC Sensation, would it be a waste of effort moving to an iPhone 4S? Would it be a downgrade?

It wouldn't be a downgrade, the iPhone's IPS screen is a great panel and resolution is also nice and high just like the Sensation's. Sensation has 960 x 540;the 4S 960 x 640. So the resolution on the iPhone is actually higher.

The iPhone will most likely be a smoother experience with better battery life (versus no custom ROM on the Sensation with stock battery) and will have more refined applications.

I'd consider an iPhone 4S a fairly big upgrade.

I wouldn't say 'big' upgrade, in fact in a couple of ways it's technically a downgrade, with it's smaller screen and slower (on paper) cpu. Depends on priorities really, I could have got a 4s when I got my Sensation XE, but decided not to as it was basically just a faster version of what I already had, whereas the extra screen size of the Sensation was a real upgrade.

I'm not trying to start an iPhone vs Sensation argument, but to call it a 'big upgrade' is pushing it a little.

Well, the reasons I use the term 'fairly big upgrade' are as follows -

Internals - while on paper the CPU is slower, in benchmarks and real use it's a very small difference, the 4S and even the 4 feel faster in use and the GPU is also a lot more powerful as well.

Camera/Video - the 4S has the best of all the new phone cameras, and the same goes for the 1080p recording as well, both are a lot better than the Sensation.

Storage options are better, though more expensive (16 - 64GB).

The 4S screen is better, albeit smaller, that could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the individual.

Software - Android vs iOS. Not getting into that, but I think iOS would probably suit willhub. :p

Battery life - the 4S is always going to win this one as well, even though there have been a few issues, it doesn't take much to beat the Sensation and the 4S battery life is generally very good.

Connectivity related stuff - the 4S has dual-antennas which means it has a rock solid signal that isn't affected by attenuation like the iPhone 4 was, the Sensation has that wifi death grip issue, which isn't really a big problem but it does exist.

So yeah, huge upgrade? No. Fairly big? I think so.

It isn't going to be cheap though.

Battery Life with the Bricked Kernel and a 1900mah battery, I can get 1 1/2 - 2days out of my Sensation.

With GPU accelerated menus, I can't say i've noticed much difference in UI smoothness. Maybe if Android just had icons for menus, it would be smooth as butter too.

The Video Recording, with the Bluray camera mod and 40mbit videos, I'd like to see a comparison.

And double the price !! I got my Sensation for £275 New. Anyone is insane to swap a Sensation for an iPhone 4S now. Mines running at 1.7ghz and would stomp all over the 4S in pretty much everything. I truly believe this.

Yes the iPhone has a higher resolution display but with QHD theres around 100 pixels difference. Comparing to the GS2 it would be a real plus point.

Is the iPhone 4S jailbroke yet? I couldn't have a phone without wireless Samba filesharing access to my phone.

That's not stock though, and the 4S would likely still better that.

I have, there is a clear difference.

The 4S will still be considerably superior. A mod doesn't change the quality of the hardware optics.

All that does is reduce your battery life. The 4S GPU blows the Sensation out of the water and it is 100% buttery smooth at absolutely everything. Most people don't really care about benchmarks.

It's still a notable difference though, the GS2 is SAMOLED+ so has a few other things in its favour.

It isn't jailbroken yet, no, but again, that is Android vs iOS territory and it's not a discussion I'm going to have. ;)

ahh sorry you miss understood,

GPU accelerated menus are on the Sensation now with a new rom ARHD which is pretty much stock. You have to see to believe the difference with this rom.

Overclocking to 1.7ghz does not really have any impact on battery as I would never have gotten to 1 1/2 - 2days. The CPU is goverened and only goes to 1.7ghz when needed. So when the phone is idle, it's running at 384mhz.

I'm not baiting here, serious question, but is there an iphone equivalent to two simple widgets that are accessed with one swipe?

Yes, I know, I've tried them all. They're an improvement, but they still aren't as smooth as the S2 never mind the iPhone.

Actually, with iOS 5 you can swipe down (Android notification bar style) and there is a weather and stocks widget, these are partly customisable.

But no, iOS doesn't have widgets so you have to open individual apps. Not that it takes any longer than looking at a widget to be honest. :)

It's strange, with ArHD some aspects are butter smooth (the main Sense launcher for example is liquid smooth and easily on par with the SGSII and the iPhone), whereas other aspects don't feel like they are GPU accelerated at all.

Still, for me and what I use my phone for, the Sensation is more of an upgrade than the 4s would have been.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be consistent throughout the entire interface.

Got me one of these, anything in particular I should be doing with it? Loading some kind of super rom or something?

Also are there any must have apps?

Agreed, some parts are smooth, others not so. Then again, I should remember that I came from a Hero and well......

You can have backups of each rom and switch between by restoring them. I have three roms that im trying at the moment, just use mybackuppro to back up messages and call logs and when you boot into another rom restore them.
