***The Official HTC Sensation thread***

I use Clockwork Mod so boot into bootloader to perform backups, it's a looonnngggg boot process between roms though! Surely constantly erasing and writing that much data is going to shag the storage media out?

Is anyone else having constant issues with text messages appearing out of sync? If I reply to a text message as soon as one arrives, my message will appear before the one that I'm replying to.. if that makes any sense!

Irritating as hell!

I've double checked and my phone is getting time from the servers, I haven't set it locally... and it happens with all contacts, not just one.

Any ideas??

Ta!

I use this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297587 I prefer to the original one I had. You can download an APK for it and update it with the rom running. I have a class 10 32gb Kingston SD card so it has a lifetime warranty on it. Takes about 10 mins to switch a rom for me.

Not much Sensation love recently.

Anyone else using Android Revolution and Bricked 1.6 kernel? I'm running at 1.78ghz rock stable.

Can't believe how underated this phone is, understandbly due to initial stock reviews. It really is a different phone now.

On the modaco site there's quite a stable ICS rom in alpha

That's because the 'enthusiast' community have written it off due to it being technically inferior to the Galaxy S II.

It's better, but it's far from a 'different phone'. It still has all of the same problems, just to a slightly lesser extent. Reviews should never take into account how a phone performs when you've hacked it to bits, because most people aren't ever going to do that.

just been trying it, it looks nice shame kmobs is showboating with his version.

you might not want to spend too much time setting everything up, twice now it crashed and restored the desktop to stock icons.

restoring back to cm7 until it's matured.

That'll be because we just get on with using our Sensation; we don't need to shout from the rooftops about the excellent phone we have in our hands. ;)

3.6.8 running here after I upgraded from 3.6.5 this weekend. :)

Even I would admit that the Sensation on a rooted ROM makes it such a different phone from the stock ROM and I didn't see much wrong with the original Sensation from Vodafone. :)

iPhone UI, seems so stale now.
Whenever colleagues ask me to get their work email set up for them on their iPhones I struggle to work out the right button to press to get into the Settings menu. They always have to get me into that menu and then I'm fine! :o If only I were the ICT Technician or something. :D

Other than the OMG ANNOYING ARGHHGHGHGHGH screenshot issue, I am 100% satisfied with mine. It works very well, I never noticed slowdowns, its snappy and responsive, the screen is lovely to use, it has enough room for everything I want to do with it and I love the way the externals look and feel.

If you were to swap it for a Galaxy S II and £100 in cash, I'd be hugely peeved, thats how satisfied I am with it.

The only thing it seems not very good at is winning theoretical internet arguements over who has the better mobile telephone.

I agree that as an overall package, there isn't much in it (as I've said many times before).

I was merely providing the reason as to why it has been pretty much ignored/rubbished by the 'enthusiast' community. :p

People tend to get really hung up on little details that in the real world mean very little and then inflate them into huge issues with plenty of hyperbole and end up losing sight of what these devices are actually like on a day to day basis rather than on a PDF spec list or a test bench.

When I chose it I knew that almost never would I go 'Hmm, I wish I'd had the marginally quicker processor of the Galaxy S2, it would really enhance my experience' yet every time I picked it up I'd go 'Hmm, I wish I didnt have such a plasticy phone' had I picked the S2.

Yes because these things don't matter at all and are done just as good on the sensation (stock) right?

How about:

- An amazing quality screen overall compared to the sensation (colours, viewing angles, blacks are black, better for battery life, easier to read stuff etc. in sunlight etc.)
- More RAM
- A lot more internal storage
- A lot smoother and slightly quicker out of the box than the sensation, especially for websites when scrolling or playing flash and scrolling at the same time
- Super light, thinner, great build quality
- Better battery life overall
- Better codec support out of the box and can play nearly every film file etc. thrown at it perfectly fine, where as the sensation can't (using moboplayer)
- Much better camera/video recording especially in low light conditions

But nope those don't matter since the mobile feels like a "fisher priced toy" and not a "premium device" since it is made out of plastic and is light weighted despite being the most "durable" mobile on the market, survives drops etc. much better than the iphones and HTC mobiles.

So you've popped into this thread to tell us that those of us who are happy with the phones we have are wrong? I'm happy to entertain you, mind. Lets go!

- An amazing quality screen overall compared to the sensation (colours, viewing angles, blacks are black, better for battery life, easier to read stuff etc. in sunlight etc.)

As I don't walk around with a Galaxy S2 to directly compare my screen to, none of this bothers me. The screen is excellent to my eyes - I really like it. You will remember when I first got it, I didn't - I kept comparing it directly to my AMOLED Desire, unfavourably. I then got rid of the Desire, stopped comparing the two and was immediatly more happy with my Sensation.

- More RAM

As I have yet to experience a RAM related issue it could have eleventy-billion times more RAM and it would make no difference to my ownership experience.

- A lot more internal storage

I have not filled the internal storage nor have I really used the SD card much. Therefore, even if the Galaxy S2 had a 10TB storage capcity, it would make zero difference to my ownership experience.

- A lot smoother and slightly quicker out of the box than the sensation, especially for websites when scrolling or playing flash and scrolling at the same time

I have absolutely no issues with performance and, as above, do not carry a collection of phones around with me and a stop-watch for benchmarking purposes. Therefore I am entirely satisfied with the performance characteristics of this handset.

- Super light, thinner, great build quality

I don't equate super light with good build quality. I don't like it. I like things to have a quality, weighty feel. I like the heavy doors on my car. I like the re-assuring weightyness of my mobile phone. Metal is heavy. I like this. Plastic is light. I hate this. I hate plastic things and avoid them wherever possible. The build of the Galaxy S2 was a MAJOR turnoff for me, probably the biggest and most crucial issue in my decision.

I love the way the Sensation looks and feels and after 6 months it is still in absolutely pristine, mint and as new condition. I like this. I hate plastic phones.

I don't care whether you agree on this because you are not me, and it is me I must satisfy with a phone purchase, not the internet.

- Better battery life overall

The one area you are right. The Sensation battery is irritating and does impact on my user experience.

- Better codec support out of the box and can play nearly every film file etc. thrown at it perfectly fine, where as the sensation can't (using moboplayer)

I installed RockPlayer lite when I got the phone which perfectly serves my needs (Basically limited to watching episodes of The West Wing on the train) so this is of no value to me either.

- Much better camera/video recording especially in low light conditions

I don't video things and for the odd photo I take, the camera seems fine.

But nope those don't matter since the mobile feels like a "fisher priced toy" and not a "premium device" since it is made out of plastic and is light weighted despite being the most "durable" mobile on the market, survives drops etc. much better than the iphones and HTC mobiles.

I don't trash my stuff. I don't care how it stands up to abuse and drops as I do not abuse things I own and therefore am not interested in how many times I can throw it on the floor like a crazy oaf.

Bottom line. I want a device I can browse the internet on, watch the odd TV show with, make and receive calls, send and receive texts, have a few apps, etc. I do not need a mobile HD recording studio nor do I need to compare mobile benchmarks with my mates, and I value quality feel over almost everything else.

Therefore the Sensation was absolutely the right phone for me and I'm very happy with it (BAR THE OMG STUPID SCREENSHOT BUG ARHGHG).
