*** The Official iOS 16 Thread ***

I forgot to reply back. This is on a 12.9" iPad Pro 2019 (3rd gen?) model.

1. Literally my first 5mins were spent trying to work out why opening a folder leaves an ugly gap at the top of the screen. Seen a lot of complaints about this one as it was apparently in the previous RC and yet not picked up by 'QA'.

2. Apple Pencil seems to lag in notes like crazy. Thought it was me but I've seen it mentioned a few times on reddit.

3. Opening certain apps results in a black screen animation before the app appears. I haven't used the iPad much since I updated. So far YouTube, Mail, Notes and Reminders do this.

4. Sometimes when I go from Portrait to Landscape, the orientation sticks. It used to happen before mind you but very occasionally. On the first night of upgrading it happened 5 times in an hour.

5. Icons on the dock are shifty...last night I tapped on Mail and File Browser (an app) appeared. I got confused so tapped on Safari and Mail appeared.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the keyboard is odd when it comes to composing text in an app that is set as a floating window ie telegram. The keyboard just covers the text input box so you end up typing blindly. I ran out of time tonight to mess with the device.

I've never ever had issues upgrading iOS so this smacks of a BS update. Does anyone know if I can downgrade?

Thanks pal, I might hold then, I have the same gen iPad Pro as you I think, just the smaller size. Hopefully these issues will get fixed soon.

I've seen a massive decline starting since iOS 14 slowly getting worse over time. The bugs and glitches on the iPad Pro as well as the lack of precision of typing. One that Apple fixed recently on 15.6. There were so many typing errors like you didn't know how to use a keyboard.

I assume you did it over air? Big releases I always do it through iTunes so you can do a backup and you get the full OS image.

I remember iOS 13 feeling really solid, glitch/bug free mostly compared to these recent releases.

*.IPSW files. I'd double check and check again to make sure the signings before restoring.
Yeah mate, I did an OTA upgrade. I haven't touched iTunes in like a decade really - always hated it since back in the iPod days. Thanks for those articles, I'll give them a read today and think about a downgrade or just a straight up wipe of the device.

This is the Keyboard/Text input issue I have that I mentioned. The keyboard covers the floating telegram text input box. iOS should auto resize the floating app window vertically (far right) so that the text input box is visible. This doesn't occur so the text input box is still in the bottom right corner obscured.

I’ve a weird issue on the Pro Max whereby going to Google and starting to type a search out, the search element goes off the top of the screen until you scroll it back down again. This, for me, has been the worst iOS release for bugs and weird issues.

Does anyone else have shortcuts widgets that like to change themselves?

I've got a bunch of Siri shortcuts for turning on and off lights and what not at home, I've added those shortcuts as a widget on my iPhone 14 Pro (though this used to happen with my 12 Pro occasionally) and every single time I go to use them, they've changed to Siri shortcuts that I use whilst driving to start playing certain podcasts. I have to edit the widget and change the folder from 'All Shortcuts'. I'll change it, turn on the light and then next time O go to that page of my homescreen the shortcuts have changed.

My iPad Pro is fine, that behaves itself. It's quite annoying.

Upgraded from 15 to 16 on my iPhone mini 13 this morning. Most obvious changes I've noticed so far is the huge font size for the time when the phone is locked and the notifications on lock screen have fallen to the bottom of the screen, which is a bit weird. Going to try and change it back.

Stupid question, how do you customise the Lock Screen on iPad, on the phone you just long press on the time but that isn't working on iPad. I have this awful off white clock and it's annoying me! :D

That's a useful guide above. I never realised that having the weather wallpaper and the weather widget on my lock screen was accounting for 50% of my battery drain!!!! Needless to say, I have chosen plain wallpaper and got rid of the widget now.

I use attachments in my calendar quite a lot, so when I book a flight I'll save the confirmation as a PDF and then attach it to the calendar entry. Since moving to iOS 16 I can't open any attachments on my iPhone yet they open fine on my iPad. When I try in my iPhone I just get a spinning circle icon to the right of the file name which stops after about a minute. The file doesn't open.

Generally what I do is save the document into my OneDrive and then open iCloud on my (windows) laptop and attach the file.

It's very annoying, I had to fart about last night to get into the local fireworks event as the QR code that I'd saved to the calendar entry wouldn't open.

Edit - Ignore all that, I'm an idiot. OneDrive wasn't enabled in the Files app on my iPhone.

Have Apple removed the ability to view and delete large videos?

There used to be a way to view them? I can't get it to appear on iOS 16.1 though?

How it used to be:

It only offers to optimise them for me now.

The option appeared on my iPad running iOS 15.6 but not on iPhone running 16.1. I'm wondering if it is space sensitive recommendation though as I have tons of space left on the iPhone but only about 50% on iPad.

It's annoying, I definitely used it a year or two back. Just tried to clear some space earlier today though and couldn't get it to appear.

Couldn't figure out anyway to sort videos by size or length in the photos app either.

I haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if it has already been mentioned, but I recently found my absolute favourite iOS app. It is called SongShift and lets you import playlists from one music streaming service to another. For me, this is useful as people I know share playlists using either Spotify or YouTube, but I use Apple Music. Well worth the one-off £35 imo.
