I really hope Apple manages to put a good implementation of 120Hz into the next iPhones. All before, and even the Note20 which is LTPO are complete messes, with colour inconsistencies at various refresh rates.

I think they will be able to (if they do) they have the experience from the iPad Pro line-up at least. I've somehow skipped the 12 line-up thus far and can't see myself actually getting one now as whilst they look fantastic I also am completely happy with the XS.

“Complete mess” is a gross exaggeration. In all the many, many reviews I have read of different phones, nowhere are “colour inconsistencies” discussed as a major problem. In fact I can’t recall a single mention of it. I also did a brief internet search before making this post and nothing came up relating to colour inconsistencies that were tied specifically to high refresh rates.

Apple benefited from many many years of 120/144Hz LCD displays on the PC market, and most of these issues had already been solved with LCD. First few years of LCD higher refresh rates had their challenges too, and to a degree, they still do.

With OLED, we're right at the beginning of going towards higher and adaptive refresh rates, so these issues are expected.

That was my observation from using the device, instantly noticeable difference when you switch. But since it's also combined with resolution change (you have to choose 1080p@120Hz or 1440p@60Hz), there's an expectation for difference. But when you choose 1080p@60Hz versus 1080p@120Hz, the difference in colour is quite clear. OnePlus phones have this as well, but it's much less noticeable. Even on 120Hz, the refresh rate drops to 60Hz regularly when the phone gets hot (just like S20, maybe less frequently), which can even happen if you're in a low signal area trying to browse the web! This doesn't happen on OnePlus phones for example.

Honestly, I would say this implementation is inferior even to my OnePlus 7 Pro from 2019. I would take a proper 90Hz implementation over this mess any day of the week.

And if Apple releases the next iPhone with such a messy implementation, I won't be happy and probably won't buy.

Didn't even think about the screen technology, good point.

This is happening on TV's too. Its quite funny, the industry seems to have shoehorned 120hz into all these panels when the screens weren't properly calibrated with lookup tables that work for 120hz or adaptive sync, so now we're blessed with screens that have color shift and flickering

Hopefully they go back to the curved edge design of the 11.
The flat edges of the 12 is so 2010. I didn’t like it then - I still don’t like it now.

I'm glad they've gone back. The curved edge is one of the reasons I never bought another iphone since the 5, a design which I loved. (I've had android since - and even then tried to get square edge phones) The curved edges were too slippy, where as the straight edge of the 5 just felt grippier to me. Now I'm about to go back to Apple.

iPhone 13 - if they keep a port, at least make it USB C.

Fair enough.
Personally I’ve not found the rounded edges to be slippery. The iPhone 11 Pro Max that I use currently has a grippier edge than Samsung Galaxy S phones and the Matt glass on the back helps as well.
In fact, I’ve kept all my iPhones naked and never dropped a single one, iPhone 4, 5s, 6, 8 Plus, 11 Pro Max.
Apple are usually about refining a product and keeping what works... it just seems weird to me that they go back to flat edges after ditching it. Maybe we can also expect a repeat of the bowed back casing of the 3GS.

The 3gs I have always maintained was the comfiest phone to hold and something I think they could revisit. It would go well with the Apple Watch look.

I've firmly settled on holding out for the 13 now. It will be a decent upgrade from my X, and I like the sound of the sensor stabilisation across all models.

I've firmly battered and bruised my X, replacing screens and batteries and all sorts. The back is all cracked but hides in the case. Don't think its fair to sell it on, might keep it in the cupboard wiped with a clean install of iOS as a backup phone or just return to Apple for disposal.

Quite a few smaller notch rumours, although we hear them every year.

But definitely feel that this year they’ll shrink it a little not excepting it to be super small.

Don’t really mind the notch I’m used it to it but I’m all for a smaller one.

Yeah im intrigued at what their definition of "small" is.. From what ive seen, the length is looking to be similar, but its going to be thinner vertically

Really cant see it, at some point its going to be all wireless, cant see them changing to usb c for 1 or 2 years and then droping the port

Yeah wishing for USBC on the iphone at this point is pretty pointless, its not going to happen.
