You can still do that? :p

Ill be doing plenty of that once usb-c comes available, imagine transferring raw images from phone to laptop that quickly. also those 4k videos which are huge in file size for editing purposes

Re: USB-C, isn’t there an ‘issue’ with it not regulating the supply/draw/current etc?

I mean, it’s not an issue that can’t be avoided, but I thought you are more prone to frying damaging a device by wrongfully assuming that all USB-C charging plugs are compatible with all USB-C devices (particularly third party chargers).

How quickly though? What are you expecting compared to 5g/WiFi 6/AirDrop? I ask as 40 Gbps is 5 GB/s, even if you had an NVMe drive that could write that fast sustained, the iPhone storage has to be capable of reading at that speed.

Agreed, no real benefit unless you have absolute rubbish connectivity etc. Maybe I'm outdated, but I just open Photos and export/edit from there after taking anything on the iPhone and if I need to use it on the Mac. Otherwise AirDrop is my go to choice too. No need for cables in 2022 in my opinion.

Even if connectivity isn’t there, AirDrop from memory creates a private point to point Wi-Fi network between the phone and Mac and transfers over that. It’s really, really quick and I can’t see how doing it using a cable would be of any benefit.

If you have rubbish internet and and you do backups to a Mac then I can see the benefit. But certainly not for transferring data (outside of backup/restore).

I wouldn’t mind USB-C purely for the fact I would only really need to worry about one cable type.

That's quite interesting, I've never once looked up how AirDrop works before. I'm such a user :D

Going completely wireless is a stupid idea and they should never do it. USB-C is what it should be
Well it depends on what they mean.

Do they mean completely wireless so you have to use a stand to charge or do they mean portless so you can still use MagSafe?

Unless the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a rear facing display, to use the proper camera's for selfie's, then I'll be keeping my 13 ProM

Can’t see iPhones adopting a rear facing screen. It’s very niche.

It'll happen - just not for this 14.
Apple probably saving it for when they run out of minor spec bumps and run-of-the-mill software features with ridiculous technical names.

Is it worth making the journey to a store for release day? Keen to acquire a 14 as soon as possible so wondering if it's a better bet as I have the day off anyway

It will be delivered on release day so same day as you can get it from store.

Out the know question here, but is itunes needed these days with a iphone ? Considering a 14 on release and have not used one for personal use for many years

Use physical connections at work for backups and the odd profile configuration, handy to have although USB-C would just make life a little easier it terms of one connection for all devices but otherwise not really fussed.
I guess it might save us a bit on not having to purchase Apple taxed cables :p

If Apple shifted to a complete wireless iPhone, as consumers it's fine but as a business i think we would have to have a real hard look at it all and determine if the extra aggro and expense, ie - kitting all employees out with chargers (would need at least two or three per employee), would be worth it - i could see them dumping them all to be honest.
Plus i think the, slightly, slower charging would pee a few of the guys off.

Nope, not unless you want to transfer music etc.
