***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Yes but I wouldn’t be too worried about getting one right away. This isn’t going to be a limited production set and will be on sale for as long as it continues to sell well. Most sets are in production for at least 18 months, popular sets are often on sale for a number of years. Lego aren’t silly, they’ll make as many as they can sell for something like this.

I’m sure that will not stop the scalpers buying loads for eBay though...

That's true. Likely to be some promotion later too

Indeed, if it’s carried by Argos/Amazon/John Lewis/Smyths then there will be discounts to be had later in the year. It’s also worth checking the other European Amazon stores too as it’s only £5 or so to deliver to the U.K.

The caveat is Nintendo is very protective of their IP, this could be a unit/time limited licence deal, guess we will have to find out.

It’s really strange because when I was in HK, my cousin had a Famicom, the red and white (or faded yellow!) one, he also had an disc drive that sits at the base for it too, my neighbour’s kids also had a famicom and I used to go over to play Bubble Bubble. My best friend in school at the time had a Western NES, I recall it looking different, grey and very square box. I thought it was a different console altogether. I was too young really to appreciate what brand or manufacturers were. So I seen both at a young age. God knows where my friend got his NES from though.

Yes, I was similar :) The big grey box just seems so clumsy.

So the latest announcement blows the NES out of the water, the Grand Piano is amazing and finally being released after a very long wait. It was so popular that the Lego website crashed last night after the announcement was made. The one downside is the price point at 350€ but over 3,000 piece count and a Bluetooth powered up unit so I’m not surprised. Even with that, i can see this being incredibly popular,

Saw an advert for the piano and it did look amazing, really wanted one... Until I saw the price :p

There's a bit of quieter news too, which Is that they were going to release a technic search and rescue style Osprey tilt rotor aircraft. However apparently in real life there are no search and rescue versions and it's only military, so Lego have decided to pull it at the last minute due to a policy they have about not making military models (not sure how they get away with star wars!). Some retailers (not sure there are any in the UK) have already got stock and will be able to sell it, so imagine there will be some eye-watering prices on eBay!

You can buy a search and rescue version, just no one has! The whole saga is outrage/cancel culture, pure and simple. The claims the campaign group were making were not even accurate, they claimed it was heavily armed which it isn’t. They also took offence to lego/toy buyers funding military companies (Bell and Boing), best they make sure they never go on holiday then....

Lego has released loads of these sorts over the years. There was a Lego city set which had a jet which was an F35 in all but name. I own a Lego technic cargo plane which is a C-XXX in all but name and pretty much only used by the military. I also own the Lego Sopwith Camel which is an actual military plane with guns, admittedly retired in 1920.

I imagine that campaign group feels very happy with themselves right now. The best thing Lego could have done was just ignore it but you know, that’s not how outrage/cancel culture works....

I can treat myself to 1 Box Set, I’m afraid it’ll have to be Nintendo.

The Nintendo set will no doubt be a time limited licence release so best get that first, the Piano looks to be here for at least a year or 2.

The ideas sets are only kept on if they sell well, many only last a year. I’d expect the Nintendo to stay for at least 18 months.

I’m a bit torn with the Nintendo to order right away or I might wait for a decent GWP.

I expect they’ll pull the current one come release day.

GWP? and what current one?

I wonder if I can go to Smyths on Saturday and pick one up?
