The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

Just back from the midnight screening. Initial thoughts are thus:

Average. Lack of suspense. Stuck too closely to the character archetypes created in Alien. One dimensional characters. Some really dodgy writing and more than a few plot holes.

Not as good as it should have been or could have been. Looked gorgeous though. I'd give it a generous 6/10.

Oh and the 3D is utterly pointless. Why was it filmed in 3D? It was barely used.

Loved it, knew I would though, a solid 9/10 from me, gave me everything I wanted and so much more :D

Love the little nods to the other films, one bit that stands out...

David, we are leaving!

Just back myself, was a good film but certainly not great. The visuals were stunning but the 3d added absolutely nothing in my opinion. Certainly added more questions than it answered and left well open for a sequel, was no clips after the credits either.

I did like the fact that when the Prometheus came in to land it looked like a bigger badder version of Serenity, not sure if that was intended or not but it certainly came to mind :)

Was looking forward to seeing this next week. Disappointing reviews here though.
Is it not worth going to see then?

its worth seeing, its not what i wanted it to be. it could and should have been a lot better. unlike Alien it wasn't a horror movie, and unlike Aliens it wasn't much of an action movie.

Glad to hear that, I love 3D.

Regarding more questions than answers, there's this from wikipedia,

'During the March 17, 2012, WonderCon, Scott stated that the film leaves some questions unanswered, and that these could be answered in a sequel, saying "If we're lucky, there'll be a second part. It does leave you with some nice open questions." Asked if a sequel would be a direct prequel to Alien, Lindelof said "if we’re fortunate enough to do a sequel... it will tangentialize even further away from the original Alien."'

people saying the 3d was ****... i mean wtf?! it was the best use of 3d yet

I could probably name a maximum of two scenes where I felt that the 3d was used to a good effect and even those were more 'oh, that's nice' rather than any sort of enhancement of the film, 3d remains pointless for me.

We had a trailer for Spiderman in 3d at our showing and that was just pure cheese and badly done too, I really think I am done with 3d now.

Just back from the IMAX in Gateshead..

Some people will like the film..
Some people will criticise it for not being alien.

For me the film was everything I was hoping for.. It lived up to the hype IMO.

The 3D Was fantastic.. Best use of 3D yet for me.
It was great in the way you didn't really notice it.. My eyes adjusted and it just suited the film. I could really appreciate what it brings to the film.

9/10 for me.. Easy.

Everyone has their opinions :)

I noticed a lot of reviews are saying the script isn't great, and some of you seem to be echoing that? Just for some perspective - are we talking "Attack of the Clones" bad? Or just a bit dodgy here and there?

It just felt a little, off. Hard to explain.

Lots of let's go here, back to the ship, lets go here for a wonder, oh no, lets go here, bam wham, boom bam, hmmmmmmmm, the end. Not nearly enough suspense.

Still thought it was very very good, but as in my previous post I had just watched Alien for the 1st time in 10yrs and Aliens is one of my favourite ever films, so I am a scathing critic of the rest of the series :p

3D was very good though and as a few posters have alrady mentioned, it was well done and just fitted with the film rather than 'OMG FINGS COMING OUT THE SCREEN INTO MY FAAACE BCOS RACE CAR'.
