The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

What a ******* stupid film. I feel as though I've been robbed

**** film, a trillion and one plot holes, not even half a story and so many nonsensical and unbelievable decisions. What a ******* waste of an evening and £20.

Not ******* happy.

Load of ****.

But their reactions or lack thereof make zero sense. It's not a little niggle i'm picking its a huge part of the film and no one even reacts. She doesn't react to what has happened to her, medical staff don't react to getting their ass kicked from her, no one chases her despite it apparently being so important she goes into hyper sleep, she doesn't mention and no one investigates the alien that has been pulled out of her, captain doesn't ask why she's a mess. Nothing.

Everyone in the cinema was frankly in disbelief at this scene, and I heard a few people laughing out loud.

I am amazed that this scene especially could be signed off by the people making this movie.

Not what I expected at all.......the 3D was extraordinarily natural looking compared to films I have seen before, but like others have said some of the scenes were either daft or nonsensical......for example, a biologist not interested in a dead non-terrestrial lifeform?...sure! And the Caesarian was daft, she would never have walked off like that....

I still liked the film, however I expected something more far-reaching and epic....more akin to the Ridley Scott of Gladiator, Blade Runner and Kingdom of Heaven rather than the Ridley Scott of GI Jane and Black Rain.....

It seemed to be a film that began in one direction, only to be pulled in another, thereby never really fulfilling it's initial or potential promise. Shame.

Even more irritating/surprising (and further proof of bad writing) was said biologist going within inches of an animal which is rearing up, flaring its hood and hissing at you then calling it cute??!?!!? I'm no biologist but even I know thats the universal sign for "back off sunshine or I will kick *$** out of you" yet a biologist doesn't comprehend this? Really?!

I mean they had a geologist in the same room any writer with a brain and some ability would merely swap the two around and have the biologist saying "noooo!" which would have made infinitely more sense. How someone on the money the scriptwriters/director and all the rest are on can not recognise such a simple stupid error is beyond me.

Totally agree with that, if they swapped them round it would have worked ok.

The other thing I thought was daft was, given how small the crew was, that they were meeting each other for the first time coming out of suspended animation???

I mean, I know it's purely for the audience benefit ("Hi I'm the captain; I'm the biologist; I'm the bad guy") but it's utter nonsense.

Imagine if the NASA crews met each other for the first time inside the rocket...

If the ship was massive (like Star Trek class ships) or a prison ship, sure. But a tiny science vessel with a small ish crew, and nobody knows each other? Yeah, right.

For that mission, given its critical importance to the guy financing it, the crew would have been hand-picked and trained together, and would by loyal company men not mercenaries...

So, so much wrong with the film.

On the whole I think the film was good, but like creating any prequels plot holes are going to creep up. The story behind the engineer's/ Space Jockey was interesting. I saw it in 2D so I think I may check it out in 3D in a couple of weeks.

Question about the ending though/ plot hole:

In the original Alien film when they find the space jockey in the chair with his chest burst out from the inside, how is this now possible? When the jockey got killed by the other alien on the Prometheus escape ship?

Also in the original Alien film, the eggs are all found in a type of stasis field which reacts when Kane puts his hand through it. Like they have been stored there by intentional means, like a silo. How can this be possible now as well?

Question about the ending though/ plot hole:

Answers
Different planet, different SJ. Intentionally, Ridley keeps repeating it in every interview now, that they wanted it that way.

My private opinion is that they couldn't get franchise to license original elements, so they've changed everything, from company name and logo all the way down to the beast and reproduction chain elements. Everything in Prometheus in like chinese knockoff - vase for eggs, sea monsters for face huggers, phterodactile for xenomorph, etc etc

As for the second part of your question, I'm not sure I understand. Vases are not eggs.

Yeah I remember now saying this to my girlfriend, that it might not have been the original planet. But why would they intentionally put in the warning beacon at the end?? I guess for obvious reasons. But then again I think the warning signal they pick up in Alien is extraterrestrial in origin, but why would the Jockey's be sending out a warning?

What I meant about the eggs was in Alien they find eggs in the derelict ship. But there were none of these types of eggs in Prometheus. Only vases. So I guess it must have been a different ship/ planet. Maybe going somewhere else for a different reason?

If licensing was really an issue how did the AVP **** get made? Would who ever owns the rights really turn down Ridley?

From what I have heard they dint turn them down, Ridley dint want them involved as they would want to much say in the plot. Might have been better if they have been involved lol

As for stuff like AVP/Predators getting made is simple. They all made very healthy profits in the end

Hypocrite Scott, in this interview he admits cuts were made to get a lower rating, he says something along the lines of getting a lower rating grosses them about $80 million more.

A few weeks ago, Lindelof went on record to say not a single frame would be cut to achieve a softer rating.

You can see where some of the cuts are and some of the scenes don't flow so well, the good news is that we may have a directors cut coming for the BR release :D

Well after waiting months to see Prometheus, watched it last night.

What a crock of ****e. Great FX and Fastbender was good as always but it was just all a bit pointless. Meh 4 out of 10

All a money making exorcise like Scott stated himself. Disappointed people and fans will rush out and buy the Blu Ray just to see the proper cut of the movie. Then, about 5 years later there will be another re-release of the Deluxe Directors Cut or something along those lines, mark my words.

I really enjoyed in fact loved it (but only because someone said to me don't watch it as the one before alien, watch it as a normal movie).I also took my 13 year old daughter to watch it (who loves alien and aliens) and she didn't enjoy it at all ,she said she was waiting for half the film for something to do with alien to start

Yep.

One of the things I enjoyed most about Alien was its subtle satirical content. Science fiction films offer golden opportunities to throw in little scraps of information that suggest enormous changes in the world. There's a certain potency in those kinds of remarks. Weylan Yutani for instance is almost a joke, but not quite. I wanted to imply that poor old England is back on its feet and has united with the Japanese, who have taken over the building of spaceships the same way they have now with cars and supertankers. In coming up with a strange company name I thought of British Leyland and Toyota, but we couldn't use "Leyland-Toyota" in the film. Changing one letter gave me "Weylan," and "Yutani" was a Japanese neighbor of mine. ”
