*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

Yeah, my Note II LTE has far worse signal than my friend with an S3. In the same location and network he could have 2 bars while I have no signal, or I have 2 bars and he has a full signal.

My signal also fluctuates wildly from 3/4 bars to no bars/no signal pretty frequently while the phone is stationary, which is very frustrating.

So nobody wanted it last time (or noticed it?) but anybody want a free case for the Note II? It's the impact resistant case I used to have. Boxed and everything. First come first serve...

Had my note 3 a few days now and love the thing coming from an iPhone 5.

What's everyone browser of choice on the note?

Thanks

Right guys, without reading a plethora of information can you lot help me :D?

I'd like to root my note 2, and find a decent 4.3 rom.

How do I go about rooting (whats the best/easiest way etc). Whats the best way to load up roms? I used to use wanams roms on my s2 i think.

What mods should I look out for?
I'd quite like to get an sview case and have seen an sview/multiwindow mod for deodexed roms.
I'd also like to keep s-pen functionality (when i lookedages ago roms didnt include spen use etc)

I am going through xda, but just wondering of the best/most efficient ways you guys have chosen :)

Here's a little mini guide from a fellow newbie, since no one else offered, seemed pretty easy once you get started but you just need to ensure you have the correct phone variant (most in UK are 7100 but CHECK, I have the i317).

ROOT:
Followed his instructions exactly on this page and it seemd to work fine (see next post for uncertainties):
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method/

INSTALL ROM:
Watched his video about how to generically install a ROM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbKH8sJ3BHc

At the start of that video he mentions going to his FAQ to learn how to backup your current ROM, use that page to:
Backup Existing ROM (save to External SD but need 2Gig+ free)
Backup All Apps (using Titanium Backup Free to External SD)
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-faq/

He has a list of the best ROMS in his opinion but watch his ROM of the week YouTube videos, the new ParanoidAndroid 3.99 ROM uses Android 4.3.1 and looks like a top choice.

What do most of you chaps use for ROM news and decent discussions?

It was always XDA many a year ago but I see places like galaxynote2root.com popping up and provinding great instructions/reviews/suggestions. Only a few of the roms on there really worked so not sure if it's my variant or out of date tools.
Issues when using ODIN CWM Recovery to install:
BeanStalk - gapps would not instal from it's specific gapps zip into the rom
Jedi x20 - no GPS (but it supports exFAT!)
CynagonMod 10.2 - error state so wouldn't install (attempted four different sources)
Carbon - error state
Illusion - error state
ParanoidAndroid 3.99 - no exFAT support for SD

I must say, Panaroid Android is utterly phenomenal! Very snappy, lovely pie to regular features, halo notification, refreashing user interface... just a generally great 4.3 Android experience. Just no exFAT support so there's a 64Gig SD just left to waste.
Do you just pick a kernal that supports exFAT to enable that feature?
Is the ODIN CWM Recovery tool dated and that's why I may have had issues installing the ROMs above?

Woah woah - hold the phone....

Paranoid Android does not work with external SD Cards!?

Wow that's cold, skips my simple questions and asks me one instead. LOL!

FAT32 is fine.

EDIT: No errors with ROM flashing now. Just had to download the CWM Manager from the app store, if you do this make sure you're using a ROM that lists you phone variant correctly (i.e. Jedi X20). This will install the latest version of CWM after you've used the ODIN root.

The official CM11 build 'should' come out pretty soon as the i9300 got it a few days ago, architecturally isn't it very similar to the n7100 ?
