*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

"the display resolution is the same as with the original note, 1280x720..........."

:o

Think I'll hold out for more sources to confirm the matrix used as they don't seem to be too clued up :o

EDIT:

Lol.......

They are now saying that the original note had a SAMOLED + display...................

You can see for yourself, from the zoom view, that the screen has an RGB pixel arrangement. Each pixel has a red, a green and a blue sub-pixel. They can call it Sally for all they like - it's still an RGB sub-pixel arrangement, and not pentile.

Yeah I see that, but we don't know for a fact that is actually from the note II, could just be using the GS 2 for all we know :p

They got quite a lot wrong there in that link and in the comparison against the original note.

Nearly every other site hasn't mentioned anything about the matrix used, just stating SAMOLED HD.

Very true... But extremely poor practice if so! That can't be considered just a typo like the "same resolution as the Note1" statement. It's outright BS / corner cutting.

Also, according to androidauthority the screen is Pentile:

androidauthority said:
Both displays use Samsung’s PenTile technology, meaning the subpixels are shared by adjacent pixels.

:(

Clearly one of the sites is wrong, and unfortunately, my money is on The Verge :(

Expected in October.

I'm almost thankful I can't upgrade until January (business contract) I was set on the S3 but now this... 3100mah battery? Yes please! I hope the nexus phones suck otherwise I'm going to lose my mind choosing!

Will be interesting to see how the battery performs proportionally to the SIII considering the extra drain due to the monster screen :p

Indeed!

If they are wrong they will be removed from my RSS news feed straight away.

EDIT:

Yeah the bigger battery is needed due to the bigger screen and if it does have a RGB matrix, then it will consume more power than what the pentile matrix would. Although I would say that the battery life will be better than the GS 3 anyway.

Is it pentile? Not really up on the various stuff i havent heard them say amoled plus so assume its pentile?

There's a video posted by Engadget, Samsung's rep states it as "Super AMOLED +". Not pentile then? :D

Edit - Would help it I actually pasted the link in... http://www.viddler.com/v/3f6fb7be?secret=52956069

Hmm... But the guy then goes on to incorrectly state the thickness of the phone a few seconds later. Doesn't inspire masses of confidence. As Nexus18 pointed out, virtually all the press releases say "Super AMOLED", not "Super AMOLED +". Surely this would be a one of the main selling points?

I think I'll wait until someone actually takes a close-up photo of the screen...

... I still can't get my head around the fact that The Verge would publish a picture, claim it was a closeup of the Note2, and comment on the "quality" of the pixel arrangement (in a very product-specific way), if it is not even using the same tech as pictured. That would be undeniably deliberately misleading, and pretty pathetic really.

Someone mentioned nexus...shall we be expecting new nexus at the end of the year?? If not , I can see myself selling nexus and getting note 2 around November December...

Overall I'm 50/50 on the NoteII - Very MEH screen and design and where's the GOD DAMN BLACK MODEL - SAMSUNG YOU FOOLS!

Atleast its got 2GB RAM and doesn't look super fugly. I hope the Nexus's are not such a let down like the S3 and NoteII design wise.

Specification wise:
CPU/GPU + RAM + Battery its great!
But just that 16:9 (720P) Screen isn't cutting it for me.
I will hold onto my Note, until the Third appears!

Bit disappointed with the Note II specs. Was holding off from purchasing the S3 on £21 (free phone) 2 year contract from mobilephonesdirect, and now phone price gone up to £149!
Again, waiting hopefully for new nexus.
