*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

I don't think the resolution is as bad as people are making out. At least it is a standard size and 16:9 aspect ratio. I think the only way it could be better is if it was 1080*1920?

From the other comments you will actually get more real estate when watching videos etc as there will be no black bars.

I'm pretty much decided on this one when my contract ends in the next month or so.

True..
But Note users are used to the 16:10 ratio, the Note2 is 16:9, so seen by many as a downgrade.
Beside's you cant always be watching movies on it, to appreciate the 16:9.
There's other things like internet, porn, games, work? :o
An no Black cover!

They probably see it as a downgrade because it is a smaller number :p. Okay you lose what 80 pixels? But I think it is absolutely worth it to get an aspect ratio that's more widely used for things like films, tv shows and even pictures. Hell I bet games would prefer 16:9 as well surely?

Most porn is shot in 16:9 :p

Don't see the issue with the screen really. 16:9 certainly trumps 16:10 and a 720p screen provides more than enough pixel density for a screen of its size.

A lot more than 80 pixels :p 102400 pixels are lost.

And yeah I imagine games would benefit better from 16:9 as well.

Personally I prefer 16.9 ratio, although I wouldn't like the thought of downgrading the screen res. if I where coming from the original note.

Hmm wonder how the grey looks in the flesh. Tempted to drop my s3 for one of these, currently have the white s3 and like how it looks. But could be tempted by the grey, looks fairly ugly on those pics up there tho.

By the way, The Verge have edited their article, quoting the correct resolution for the original note, and referring to the screen on the note as Pentile. That same comparison picture remains though...

16:9 certainly trumps 16:10

...Not in my book it doesn't. For a given diagonal screen size, 16:10 provides more screen area. For example, the Note2 has only 2.4% larger screen area than the original note, whereas a 16:10 5.5" screen would have been 7.7% larger.

I appreciate it's a matter of personal preference, but there is no blanket "16:9 is better" statement.

There's more to a screen than its subpixel arrangement. Take a look at a Note 1 or Galaxy S3 in a shop and tell me the brightness and colour saturation of the oled screen doesn't blow you away. (not to mention the size difference compared to the iPhone)

Damn, I was hoping to wait until November and the Nexus devices, but my Atrix really is on its last legs now, just about functional.
I wish they would release a few specs for the nexus devices so we can make a decision, as the note 2 would be great for me, but I know missing out on having a S4 pro chipset by a couple of months would bug the hell out of me.
For once, this device would actually get around my hatred of manufacturers overlays because it is so unique, customising android to enhance the s-pen experience would be a great idea.
I'm secretly hoping that this will not be out for 4-6 weeks as that will make the choice easier as the next round of nexus devices won't be that far away then..

267ppi and Pentile is not a great combination. OG Note was 285ppi and that was great - only noticeing pentile if you really get close.

Will have to see this to make a definitive decision.

Yeah pentile really isn't an issue nowadays, you only notice it when you put your face right up against the screen essentially :p. You notice it easily on the likes of the desire. Plus apparently pentile is better for battery life, which is a plus in my books.
