****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

We've got demo models at the office now, had a play with one for about 20 mins yesterday, love the phone, hate Touchwiz (due to being a Sense user for the previous 2 phones). I want to scroll up and down on a single page, not side swipe multiple ones!

Camera is excellent, love the continuous autofocus in video mode, and how it alters exposure/white balance gently when going from bright to dark scenes.

Sadly the demo units don't have any HD videos preloaded and couldn't access the gaming hub as no sim = no data signal.

The courier delivered the phone at 7pm, was only in the door 5 minutes, perfect timing. Thought I would have to wait until tomorrow, but really glad I didn't :D

Only had a quick blast with it but absolutely loving the phone! Didn't think I would be as amazed as I've found myself being. Coming from the omnia 7, I only expected a slight difference. But from the moment I switched it on I could tell it was going to be great. The next gen amoled screen used here is just stunning, such a difference from the Omnia, whose screen isn't exactly poor, but Samsung have definitely improved on it.

I'll be destroying the battery today putting the phone through it's paces, can't wait to see what it can do. It's good to be back with android, just to have the level of customisation again is great. WP7 is a great OS, but I still feel it needs time to grow. So long as Microsoft continue to put a great deal of effort into it I think it will eventually become a major player and who knows I'll probably find myself trying it again for my next phone.

As so mostly the same issues i had with Three then, just a lack of coverage where they promised it. Fortunately i do indeed seem to get good signal in all of the places that matter for me so i'm happy enough.

At least Voda haven't had some indian call-centre try and sell me phone insurance yet like Three did.

Yeah, they probably weren't that bad, and apart from coverage I spent a good 18 months of service where it 'just worked', never had to call up customer service or anything.

Then they changed my billing date and I had to customer service, and whilst there were no problems as such, guy was polite etc, ultimately there wasn't much service involved, it was basically him saying no when I asked to keep my existing billing date, no attempt to meet in the middle or try to make me 'happy' in the slightest.

Anyway, just did a speedtest on orange at work and got 1mbps, bit better than no signal at all, so I'm happy :p

Guessing you're talking about the apps drawer? if so I believe there's an option to change to a proper draw rather than the blatant iOS rip-off that is stock Touchwiz...

Look forward to hearing your thoughts mate! :)

well, got my phone yesterday...

It was delivered to my local branch of DHL at 455am...by 530 pm I was wondering where the hell the delivery was so I called them. Apparently it looks like my parcel was the victim of a random spot check, but they forgot to put it back on the van after checking it...so it didnt go out! Worse than that, the guy on the phone was telling me that due to backlog it probably would be allocated another spot on a van until Thursday!!!!!

I started causing a fuss and he gave me a direct number to the local branch. I called them and made another fuss and they said that if I could get to them by 6pm then I could pick it up. By the time I was ready to leave, I had 15 mins and the satnav reckoned it was a 12min journey...and that was with no holdups...and I was about to do it during rush-hour! I dont think I've ever had so many near-misses when driving! Still, I made it there with 4 mins to spare!

Now just to get my PAC code to Orange and I'm good to go!

Swapped mine this morning due to the lazy pixel and the new one is fine, o2 shops seems to have plenty of stock ive been to 2

I dunno which new toy to play with, this or my transformer :D

Hello again. I'm guessing that no tracking number from Buymobilephones.net means it won't be getting delivered today? Order status on their website shows dispatch on Sat for delivery today.

I'm still in two minds about sending it back. From what I've read on other forums there is not much chance of getting the speed cap lifted without paying. Seems a shame to be limited to 3G speeds when they are showing a deal on 3 for 900 minutes and 1GB data (albeit over 24 months). I'm guessing that stuff like Youtube/iPlayer etc would be pretty unbearable at .3 Meg?

I started off this morning at 8am with 100% charge and by 9:30am after 75 minutes of films and 15 minutes of music, I was down to 70%. Now an hour later I am down to 64%. I have syncing turned on and have been on 3G since 8am.

Is this an unusual amount of drain?

The Samsung social hub thing apparently destroys your battery and is a pain in the arse to disable.

Yeah flashed KDF but then you have to root again which brings back this yellow mark on boot.

Like I said, the way I've done it before is to take the stock kernel e.g. KDF and put it back over the modified kernel after the root files, SU etc are copied over and working. Don't flash the whole rom, just extract the kernel (zimage) with 7zip. Then flash it as pda in odin. Nothing else selected, no pit, repartition, bootloader etc. Just auto reboot.

Browsing and checking mails etc is perfectly fine but like you said, Youtube/iPlayer and any kind of media streaming is just buffer city at that limited speed :(

Keep those first impressions coming in guys, particularly interested in what people think of Touchwiz and the bundled Samsung software as I have grown fairly attached to Sense.
