****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Would someone care to list a few pros/cons to putting these different versions of software on the phone? I've never done anything like that, but having read a few reviews, there are a few things wrong with the stuff it comes with, right?

Convince me to not stick with the original ;)

Sooooo for a complete noob to android what are the first things I should do/change?

I do not really like the homescreen as it is, also is there a way to sort all of the apps and I really do not like the unlock screen. Can this all be done with various apps or do I have to root the thing?

Other than having root, all the software versions are the same at the moment aren't they?

Sorry for just jumping into the thread and not reading it, but, how many different versions of this phone are there? I've just read 2 reviews and they both conflict. One said it was 1ghz tegra based, the other 1.2ghz something else (technical).

The UK and USA have the Exynos clocked at 1.2ghz, other areas have the Tegra 2 version @ 1ghz.

How mcuh 3G surfing are you doing tho?

Sceen brightness %?

I know when i got my iP4 the amount of mucking about with it especially browsing on 3G raped my battery during the day.

Curious.. any cable I can by to have a spare pc -> usb charge in work? lol

Not much surfing, but I do have email syncing turned on. The screen brightness is set to automatic, so this shouldn't be an issue either.

The zimage is usually inside the original pda file you flashed the phone with to start with. Don't know what that one is, taking an age to download. 'Low level' sounds a bit like bootloaders to me.

You flash your new stock firmware KDF, then immediately flash the unsecured kernel KDD, boot, copy over the su files, reboot and flash stock kernel KDF back again.

I prefer it as method tbh, the system is totally stock with superuser access. And no hack and slash kernel with god knows what instabilities.

I finally managed to sort it by installing busybox from the market, restoring apps via Titanbackup now.
