****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

holy bejesus....this is not simple!

Just called Orange to give them my PAC code and they guy asked if I had registered my phone, I was like "Umm, I dont know"...so he said "whats your number I can check", gave him the mobile number and he said it wasnt so we'd have to register it first.

Went through the process and he asked for my customer number...I said, "whats that...will it be on the invoice from mobiles.co.uk"? He said, "oh you bought it from a 3rd party? they should have set you up and registered the phone to you. Best speak to them"

EDIT
Just a question I have that I seem to get, which seems odd. I can turn the SGS2 off, holding down the power button and choosing to turn it off. then when I next pick it up, it seems to be on the idlescreen...surely it should stay off unless I hold down the power button again?

Like I said, the way I've done it before is to take the stock kernel e.g. KDF and put it back over the modified kernel after the root files, SU etc are copied over and working. Don't flash the whole rom, just extract the kernel (zimage) with 7zip. Then flash it as pda in odin. Nothing else selected, no pit, repartition, bootloader etc. Just auto reboot.

That was scary, did the that and it booted into recovery mode and just looped!

Ran Format system and its booted now.

What Happened?

just spoke to buymobilephones.net and was told they had soo much stoke to send the guy couldn't fit much in his van so a lot didn't go yesterday and will instead be sent today for delivery tomorrow so the tracking number will work later on today. what a bummer as i've got today to wait here but not so much tomorrow

i cant get flash to work, i got 10.2 from the market but the bbc weather page amung others says i need to install flash, anyone else getting this?

No idea, don't have a phone to try it on. Couriers 'lost' it. You formatted the system? Is that factory reset or format SD? Is the root still working? Shouldn't be any problem flashing the original kernel back. It's how the first SGS roots were done.

Nope still no root.

Factory reset.

I redid the PDA as I did before so I used CODE_I9100XWKDF_CL170898_REV02_user_low_ship.tar but seems I should have done the below:

Yes, you flash the kernel as PDA in Odin.

The XWKDF download from Samfirmware has the kernel as a seperate module, so just flash the file called KERNEL_I9100XWKDF_ etc

Done that as PDA and still no root

Nope that's the entire PDA, you just want the zimage, the basic kernel.

I'll download the package and have a look inside.

Btw, the reset may have wiped the su files.

So its: entire stock rom > unsecure kernel > root files > stock kernel.

Yeah just ran a root checker from the market and it says the su files arent there so I guess.

So I have to apply the KDD root,
then flash KDF complete
then flash the KERNEL_I9100XWKDF_CL170898_REV02_user_low_ship.tar as PDA again....

Bit of a ball ****

The zimage is usually inside the original pda file you flashed the phone with to start with. Don't know what that one is, taking an age to download. 'Low level' sounds a bit like bootloaders to me.

You flash your new stock firmware KDF, then immediately flash the unsecured kernel KDD, boot, copy over the su files, reboot and flash stock kernel KDF back again.

I prefer it as method tbh, the system is totally stock with superuser access. And no hack and slash kernel with god knows what instabilities.

I was told the same, except that tracking will go live first thing in the morning which is a bit worrying :/
