****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Black and I believe Green are best for power consumption on OLED screens, not sure why Green that may just hark back to the PenTile displays as surely in theory any primary colour would be just as good?

The CWM recorvery mentioned above, it looks like it's still under dev so I will check it out once it's a bit more final, at the moment my backup and restore is via MyBackup and Titanium.

Not 100% sure but it appears that's a standard 'google' account which you'd be able to add to the phone (Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Add Account) which would then allow synching to the phones contact list...

Yeah that looks like a google account. So you should if I am right have an email address ending in gmail.com? If so go to settings > Accounts & Sync > Add account and then bash in your email address and password.

Aaargh. Why can't companies tell you they don't have stock when you order a phone.

After placing an order for a SGS2 with O2 last week and setting today as a delivery date, I was told by two different people on Friday and yesterday that the order had been processed and would be delivered.

I rang up this morning, as I still hadn't received any tracking info, only to be told it was showing as 'In Dispatch' and hasn't actually been sent out. It had been out of stock and the stock should have come in yesterday but if I don't get any emails today I should ring again tomorrow.

I asked for today as someone could be in all day where as tomorrow we have a family day out planned. Are O2 usually this vague or is it just my bad luck?

I know how you feel. This was exactly my experience. When I placed the order I was assured I would have the phone within two days. I rang the next day to be told that existing contract customers, back orders etc would be honoured first. Fair enough. But they went ahead & took the £50 from my credit card (which two weeks to be refunded) & after a bit of pressure told me it could be two weeks before I had the phone. In the end I phoned around a few O2 shops and got it there. I had to forfeit the cashback offer i had hoped to get online but felt I got a good deal in store - £30 over 24 months for 500mins, unlimited O2 to O2, unlimited texts, 500MB data, free calls to 10 landlines & next day replacement phone (hope I never need that!) on a Business deal. Hang in there...its a great piece of kit & you will enjoy it.

When making the Google Contacts account, I used my ISP e-mail as the account name and not a Gmail account so it looks like I just have a Google Contacts account and not one linked to a Gmail account.

But I have not got my phone yet, it should be delivered today so I will try tonight to get my contacts on the new phone.

I also found some sites that suggest Samsung Kies, is that program needed or can you sync without any program?

I think it should work using your ISP email, be interesting to see...

Kies is primarily used for firmware updates really, it can do music/video/pics as well but it's not great at it (loaded up my ~20Gb music collection which is hardly massive in this day and age and it struggled, easier to use the phone as mass storage device, or just winamp wireless sync) but yeah more for just firmware updates,

Most of the syncing you'll want is done automagically to the google cloud, assuming you have a suitable account, namely contacts/calendar/docs one big omission is text messages really, would be nice to have those synced up as well tbh

Upgraded to KE7 - Battery drain seems to be about 3.5% per hour, although I haven't rooted and the Samsung hub stuff isn't removed.

Moderate usage should therefore equate to around 28 hours on a charge...

Yeah would be nice to sync my text messages to google, but until they have that service I just used SMS Backup & Restore and it worked a treat. It grabbed all my txt from my old phone and restored them to the SGS 2.

Mines been going since 8am this morning and still at 63%, light usage and constant email/facebook notifications etc. My Milestone would have been dead by now.

Woot! Much to my surprise, O2 have shipped the phone and updated the user account section :). Hopefully I will be at home when DHL call tomorrow and I can grab the case while I am out. My EXiM screen protector shipped from Hong Kong yesterday so I will have to careful for a week.
