****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

1. Turn screen brightness down, don't sync lots of apps every minute.
Careful on this one though, as your battery life will improve over the next two weeks since the battery isn't at its fullest yet. Not sure when it gets to its best, but mine is still improving after 2/3 weeks or so!

2. Not sure about this, since I just turn mine to silent using the rocker on the side. Maybe look up Tasker or similar.

3. Improve what performance?

4. Long press on anything on the "desktop" to remove them :)

Oh really, the battery life improves over time? Thank god for that!

Turning down the volume on the side works perfectly aswell as holding down the power button, cheers!

Looking a lot better now.

One more thing, is there a way to sort text messages by the date they were received instead of by contact name?

My battery drains at about 0.7% per hour, with hourly Twitter sync and Gmail push as usual.

How on Earth have you managed that? You must be leaving it idle or something? Also how do you enable Gmail push only? I think I'm missing something...

I'm sending a few dozen texts a day, making about a dozen phone calls of a few minutes each, browsing the internet ad hoc and maybe playing 20 mins of snes stuff on the train.

Push is what Gmail does by default (as far as I know). 0.7% is what it drains at on average with the screen off in my pocket, so idle, yes. I would have thought that would have been clear! :p

They are sorted by received already, mine are.
There are more customizable apps for text messages such as Go SMS, Handcent and Chomp if that's your thing.

Another question. LOL

Has anyone changed the default dialer, as its horrid?

Nope, I find it better than anything I've used over the last year and a half :p

Very odd behaviour - yesterday I turned data off as I was worried about my data cap - somehow my phone had used 90mb of data since I flashed it on Saturday. At lunch I turned it back on briefly and, whilst I was reading an ebook, it used up another 20mb of data in the background. I have done everything I can to identify what this data is, but no luck.

I monitored my battery usage on the weekend, with some success in prolonging the battery life to a remotely acceptable level (although disabling a few processes seemed to help). I am considering reflashing to KE2 to see how it goes.

Before that, does anyone know of an app which identifies and tracks which individual processes are accessing data?

You probably have Google Backup/Restore synchronising. It backs up apps/data/settings such as wifi passwords, Android settings and so on to your Google account so when you reset the phone or install a new ROM etc it can automatically restore that stuff.

Just turn it off in privacy settings as you are most likely to manage backups via apps anyway.

If you turn the mobile off the alarm won't sound in the morning. Is there any way of sorting this out - I'd quite like it switched off while I am asleep to save the charge.

Leave phone on and turn on "flight mode" and "silent mode" job done. Flight mode so you dont get any calls or messages and silent mode so the battery full wont wake you.

Well, I took my phone off charge at 6am this morning, and it's now at 94% with light usage (1 quick call, a few texts) so that's 1.2% drain per hour. Seems to be getting better as time goes on with the new KE7. I'll have to see how it goes :p

weird bug this morning. Phone said i had no service, and yet was able to browse webpages. Went into flight mode but then it wouldn't let me turn flight mode off. Full restart required.
