****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Maybe it's an app. Have you installed any? Have you customised the software?

yes widget locker and launcher pro, i'm sure it's one of the two or possibly both. Just now I went to my settings menu and it locked, couldn't find a way out so had to reboot, and earlier just crashed when i loaded the camera to take a pic

And don't get me started on the battery life, 33% and i've been in the house all day and battery status page shows the phone has been awake most of that time.

android system taking all my juice...and google maps for some reason which is odd, i haven't used it at all. No wifi sharing manager rubbish making an appearance today though *sigh* same old android flaws. Great hardware though.

Could be a dodgy unit?

My phone froze up every now and then, Phones4u offered me a replacement, which i took, the replacement hasn't frozen once.

launcher pro and widget locker bot zap my battery but i have very very few lock ups. Remove them and see how you get on. Rule them out.
As for the wifi manager et all, i rooted and removed them, much better.

I have turned widget lock off first to see if that improves things. It is frustrating, why do i have to tweak it so much just to get stuff to work properly? But it could be a dodgy unit so i will hold off slating it too much for now :p

I think it's the unit, I use both LauncherPro and widget locker, my battery life is good at around 0.8% per hour at idle, and in the month and a bit I've had the phone the only time I've needed to reboot it has been for rooting and also a failed Kies update...

I have found my first problem, i downloaded the zedge ringtone app, now i can set the ringtones normally and they work fine, but the notifications tone (i.e texts?) wont set, it all seems to be set up right, but is still sounding my default notification sound when i get a text... am i missing something

i had this problem, i solved it by setting my notifications ring tone in settings - sounds (from the launcher, NOT messaging).

I then set the text ring tone from messaging - settings - ring tone to the same.

I then changed the default notification back i think...

Was some thing like that just have a fiddle and send your self a txt to test it :)

Hi all, I finally have my Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile and I am about ready to upgrade the firmware and root it, however being a complete Android noob i'm very nervous about doing this, so would appreciate it if someone could please confirm what I think I know?

Firstly, my Galaxy version etc are currently...

Baseband Version: I9100BOKD1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKE3-CL186387 root@DELL103 #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.BOKE3

Now on to what I think I know if someone could please confirm...

1) By upgrading the firmware using ODIN I will void my warranty?
2) I can restore the original firmware using the T-Mobile UK BOKE3 firmware from XDA?
3) I will need a USB jig to reset the counters, and then my phone will be in warranty again?
4) Once I have upgraded using ODIN, I will not see updates via Kies again?
5) Upgrading the firmware will remove branding but nothing else?

Now for the actual process of upgrading using the instructions on XDA here

1) Use ODIN ensure Kies is not running
2) Use the XWKE7 Generic XEU firmware from XDA (I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1.tar)
3) Following XDA instructions

And to root...

1) Use the XDA Guide here
2) Use the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v3.5-CWM3.tar
3) Flash with the stock kernel I9100XWKE7_Kernel.tar from here

And finally, to get everything back to the original and warranty happy again...

1) Flash using the T-Mobile UK BOKE3 firmware from here
2) Use a USB jig to reset the flash counter

I think that covers everything, but if there is anything missing, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

1. Not if you use official firmware
2. Yes you can
3. Technically no as you of had to flash un-official firmware to make the counter tick over but resetting the counter makes it so they don't know.
4. It will update with kies fine.
5. Branding and maybe APN settings for internet/mms (Did'nt for me).

Flashing firmware with odin is risk free IF you make sure you have the correct odin settings.

If you tried to send it back without the offical firmware, yeah. Odin is a developers tool. If you can reset to stock and clear the counter then none the wiser.
2) I can restore the original firmware using the T-Mobile UK BOKE3 firmware from XDA?
Yep
3) I will need a USB jig to reset the counters, and then my phone will be in warranty again?
Yep with above.
4) Once I have upgraded using ODIN, I will not see updates via Kies again?
You may have issues with a mismatch in the product code and firmware. Kies may not trigger as you still have the T-mobile 'Productcode' and a generic HIDSWVER
5) Upgrading the firmware will remove branding but nothing else?
Any brand specific apps if there are any. Odin may also reset the phone to stock, so contacts, setting etc lost.

2) Use the XWKE7 Generic XEU firmware from XDA (I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1.tar)

3) Flash with the stock kernel I9100XWKE7_Kernel.tar from here
Two choices. You can flash the stock kernel back as in 3) but then you don't use the CF-root kernel from 2). Just an insecure kernel and manual install busybox. Or use the CF kernel from 2) and forget step 3)

And finally, to get everything back to the original and warranty happy again...

1) Flash using the T-Mobile UK BOKE3 firmware from here
2) Use a USB jig to reset the flash counter
Correct.

I'm following the guide on XDA (posted by MarkStevenson) for rooting the phone with SuperOneClick. It seems to be stuck on "Running psneuter". Any ideas how to get round this?

Thanks
