****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Or if you are using Widget Locker, use Minimalistic Text to put some text on the screen :)

I like widget locker, but I want to retain the lock pattern. It'd be nice to have a smaller version of the lock pattern at the top with the other widgets at the bottom but nevermind. :(

Thanks for your advice fornowagain.

Up until the point of rooting resetting my phone, everything was working fine.

Would you be able to provide a download link to the low level firmware that I need to install? I'm assuming that once I've downloaded it, I unzip it and make the same selections as you have in your screenshot then just whack start?

Apologies for the questions, this is unfamiliar territory for me :)

You'll need to register. Follow the instructions specific to each firmware, re partitioning. Btw make sure you're using the proper Samsung cable.

I use both although you have to unlock the phone twice which is a pita. i miss the timeout option from the desire, so you could set it to 10 minutes and then you'd be asked for the lock pattern

have you tried going into boot menu volume up + power+ home, try a factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalveric cache.

I only suggest this as I had similiar issues with a custom rom and this sorted it for me I then reflashed and it worked for me.

Thanks, I'll give that a try to see if I can get it to boot.

Thanks, I'll give it a go later if the above doesn't fix it for me. How does this differ from flashing the firmware + kernel using the guide here?

The flashing is all very similar, other than selecting the individual items and a repartition. Main difference is its a low level firmware, unlike the KE2/KE7 which are just rips from the FUS server intended for Kies. It will rewrite bootloader areas that the Kies rips won't (efs+data). So will wipe the phone data, but more likely to fix boot issues.

How risky is rewriting the bootloader? I'm anxious to not make my problem worse :p

anyone got a spare battery yet? i need one for this weekend
Download?

I'm going to Download this weekend (though my exams both start and finish between now and then!). I've kept my old Hero rather than selling it straight away, for this purpose - I'm going to take that up instead of the S II; a) it's less to worry about in terms of loss/damage and b) I have two extended batteries for it.

I don't think anywhere is selling spare batteries yet _Jimlad_ - think about taking a different phone, or a charger? I built an AA powered charger for my Hero: http://twitpic.com/52xa3u

Very slightly, I've flashed them loads of times. As have many others. It's not really an issue, same as any flash. If Odin freezes you may have a problem, but if it's semi-bricked stuck in a loop it won't get worse. Sometimes updates write bootloaders, usually with a major update e.g. 2.3.3>2.3.4. Just the bog standard Kies updates usually don't. Use as a last resort, usually clearing/reset sorts it out.

IOW fest for me :D

i may just take a spare one as i was worried i would lose it. Saying that i have insurance so nout to worry about. I will have my car near by as im taking over and staying in the disabled site due to my friend so i guess we will have power of some sort

It will blow up and turn in to a Blackberry!

I use mine exclusively on the phone and it's fine. Any MicroUSB source is fine for charging.

There was a thread on it on XDA.

I expect devs will adjust this in time but maybe Samsung put it there for a reason I didn't read too much into it as the charge times have not been an issue for me.

Ahh right fair enough, the only reason I wonder is it does charge seemingly very slow for the battery, tho I usually charge over night anyways.

Perhaps it's to stop exploding batteries of death from melting your face while you sleep!
